Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Sept. 12

September 12th, 2022

Race One:

1st: #2 GREAT BLAKE – beat allowance foes three starts back here then was a good second against open, $20K claimers. He dropped in class last out and faded, and he now drops down to the bottom for Mark Hoffman.

2nd: #6 WAPITI WAY – has been facing this claiming level all year. He just missed two starts back then raced evenly last out in a very fast race. Willie Martinez rides back — 19% with his sprint rides, and his 99 sprint rides show a flat-bet profit this year.

3rd: #1 WATCH THE DIP – doesn’t win enough to put him any higher, but he has been third in his last three starts.

Race Two:

1st: #4 CHARGINA – has yet to win here in five tries but they were all against better company. She prepped for this with two turf sprints at Laurel and now drops in class for Todd Beattie, who wins 28% with this move.

2nd: #3 CANCAN SAREE – broke her maiden in her 11th try then came back with an even third and a head loss against this conditioned claiming level. Bill Martin wins 19% with his overall claimers and when he rides Huber Villa-Gomez.

3rd: #1 ANOTHERMANICMONDAY – just missed two starts back then showed much better gate speed last out.

Race Three:

1st: #2 LACEE – horse for the course improved some two starts back and then just missed when dropped down to this claiming level. Cathy Rozantz wins 21% going long, and her last 153 synthetic-track starters show a flat-bet profit.

2nd: #3 ROLLING MO – after three sprints to start her season here this year, she romped by over six lengths when stretched out to two turns. She has raced evenly since then but needs to show better gate speed to do her best.

3rd: #6 THISAINTJUMPSTREET – adds blinkers in an effort to keep up early. Pablo Morales returns — 26% with his route mounts.

Race Four:

1st: #7 DECEITFUL – rallied for third after being shuffled back from post one in his well-bet career debut. Son of Hard Spun is a half-brother to a Grade 3 stakes winner of $573K. Tim Hamm wins 26% after being beaten as the favorite.

2nd: #2 BIALYSTOCK – first-time starter for Tim Hamm, who wins 16% with his debut runners and 17% when they debut against this maiden level. Son of Kitten’s Joy (13% debut winners) had five workouts here to get ready for this.

3rd: #6 ELSA’S ROCKET – after racing against males, she came back with a good second two starts back for Adam Rice.

Race Five:

1st: #5 MARK THE MOOSE – just missed two starts back going two turns against this claiming level. He showed good speed last out when moved way up in class off the claim and now drops back down to the right level.

2nd: #7 WROTE IN STONE – broke his maiden in fast time then held on for third when moved up in class. He was a close second two starts in a row against better company and now drops down to the right claiming level.

3rd: #1 GOLDEN SURVIVOR – has a big shot if Alberto Burgos can break his running from post one.

Race Six:

1st: #6 STEVIS MAN – ultimate horse for the course has won 21 times here and is still firing bullets at the age of 12. After running poorly two starts back, he set a sensational pace to the deep stretch before getting run down.

2nd: #2 HARD COUNT – turns back to a sprint after beating much better then starts back when he went gate to wire. He showed good speed in his last two starts and now drops down in class and distance for Mark Hoffman, who wins 19% going long to short.

3rd: #9 CROSSTOWN SHOOTOUT – beat similar two starts back then raced evenly when moved up off the claim.

Race Seven:

1st: #1 STRAIGHTOUTADUTTON – speedball breaking from the rail could be tough if David Delgado can get away cleanly. He was a good second last out against this allowance level when he led to the final yards.

2nd: #5 CLOUD PLAY – was outrun in a stakes race going 9 1/2 furlongs two starts back at Laurel. He shipped back here, and the gelded son of Into Mischief rallied for third behind the top choice at this class and distance.

3rd: #7 GOODIE GOOMER – had a fast sprint win here last year but has been racing at two turns in five starts this year.

Race Eight:

1st: #5 EAGLES PALACE – took him 18 tries to break his maiden then came back two starts later to win going away from post 10. He just missed going gate to wire last out with Erin Walker, who has been riding great the second half of the season.

2nd: #2 C C’S KITTEN – tired two starts back when moved up in class in his first start off the claim then came back and won going away in a wide trip after breaking poorly. Huber Villa-Gomez rides back — 14% with his sprint mounts.

3rd: #9 BAHAMIAN PARK – finally made the winner’s circle two starts back here then just missed when moved up in class.
