Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Sept. 14
Race One:
1st: #5 CARINA’S WAY – didn’t show much in her career debut from post 12 on the Tapeta at Turfway Park back in January. She returned here four weeks ago and showed some speed and now drops down to the bottom for Tim Hamm, who wins 32% with this move.
2nd: #7 SUPER GEUSE – ran poorly in two starts last winter at Turfway Park. She returns 215 days later and drops down in class for Tim Hamm, who wins 15% with his overall maiden claimers. Pablo Morales gets the mount.
3rd: #1 MAMA LONGLEGS – speedball breaking from post 1 has had many chances, but this is the lowest class level she has faced.
Race Two:
1st: #5 SHOMETHESISTERS – went gate to wire two starts back at this distance then was an even third last out two weeks ago. Daughter of Comedy Show has improved since stretching out and gets Walber Alencar — 20% with his route mounts.
2nd: #1 WINDY CITY GIRL – beat similar back in January at Turfway Park then raced on the turf in her next four starts. She shipped here last out and weakened late behind the top choice. Pablo Morales rides back — 26% with his route mounts.
3rd: #2 TUDOX RUE MAJESTIC – speedball has won here before against similar company then tired last out as the favorite.
Race Three:
1st: #6 LISA MARIE – is winless in 12 career tries but this is the lowest class level she has ever faced. She didn’t run badly on Tapeta out of tow and showed up here off a pair of decent efforts on the turf at Delaware Park.
2nd: #2 TRACKER JACKER – after failing to fire in five starts on the turf to begin her career, she came here and ran second two times in a row against this maiden claiming level. Maria Bowersock wins 14% of first starts after being beaten as the favorite.
3rd: #5 ICY RAIN – daughter of Frosted improved some here in her Tapeta debut and drops in class for Tim Hamm.
Race Four:
1st: #7 SKY DIETY – returned off a two-year layoff and was a game second as the 8-5 favorite in a wide trip from post 6. Daughter of Sky Classic should get another clear trip with Pablo Morales. Bill Martin wins 25% of first starts after being beaten as the favorite.
2nd: #2 ODD GAL – Six-year-old mare is the opposite of what we usually get here. She is 6-for-24 away from here but 0-for-6 here. She does have three thirds here and drops down in class. Three starts in August should have her fit.
3rd: #1 DAVE’S TEXAS LADY – speedball breaking from post one went gate to wire three starts back but tired in her last two.
Race Five:
1st: #5 NORTH CAROLINA – usually shows good speed on turf and when he came here, the son of Speightstown chased a fast pace before weakening. He moves up a notch in class off the claim by John Guciardo and picks up Walber Alencar.
2nd: #1 MAGIC WIZARD – rallied from way back to get up for second then raced evenly in a paceless turf race at Delaware Park. This is his Tapeta debut for Ricky Hendriks, who wins 25% going short to long and 13% of third starts off the layoff.
3rd: #3 WHONEW’S TREASURE – 0-for-6 lifetime, but he has four placings due to his excellent early speed.
Race Six:
1st: #2 JARETH – beat this claiming level the last time he faced them three starts back. He moved up in class and his late rally fell a neck short, then he overcame being shuffled back from post one and got up by a nose.
2nd: #5 DETANGLER – just missed against better three starts back then tired in a fast-paced race. Switched to Ed Rojas, he was an even third last out in very fast time. Rojas wins 27% of second starts out of his barn and 23% when he rides Pablo Morales.
3rd: #6 CATHMOR – son of Ghostzapper won his last two starts here at this class and distance and drops two pounds.
Race Seven:
1st: #4 POSH PLAYDAY – was right there in the deep stretch before weakening then came back with a good second against this first-level allowance foe. Glenn Wismer’s last 196 synthetic starters show a flat-bet profit.
2nd: #8 LADY IN HEELS – horse for the course has a ton of early speed, and she showed it last out when she gunned to the front and pulled away to win by four lengths. Maria Bowersock wins 18% of first starts after a win.
3rd: #3 PRETTY RACHEL – just missed two starts back on the Tapeta at Woodbine then tired here last out against this level.
Race Eight:
1st: #5 NAMARUNU – horse for the course just missed two starts back here when dropped down to this claiming level then was third after a poor start. Sydney Rotunno wins 17% of third starts off the layoff, and Eddie Dominguez returns.
2nd: #7 THIRSTY ACTOR – after racing on slop, turf and dirt at Mountaineer Park, he shipped here and held well for second in his Tapeta debut. No reason to think the son of Stay Thirsty can’t come back and run well again.
3rd: #1 POLLOCK – versatile son of Tapit can run up near the lead or come from behind. He draws the rail and gets Walber Alencar.
