Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Sept. 29
Race One:
1st: #4 RAINAS ROLLIN – speedball began her career with two good efforts then just missed against this level when she battled for the lead every step. Daughter of Talent Search gets Addiel Ayala back — flat-bet profit with mounts that show early speed.
2nd: #3 GEARED UP – rallied from way back to get third when blinkers were added three starts back. She did little when stretched out in class but looked much better last out when she rallied for third behind the top choice.
3rd: #1 ALATION – raced evenly against open company maidens when blinkers were added then showed good speed last out.
Race Two:
1st: #4 LIMONATA – been a while since she found the winner’s circle. Against this class level, she rallied for third going six furlongs then rallied for third going five furlongs. The way speed has been collapsing lately, the race could set up for her.
2nd: #5 RUN LAUGHING – was off for two years then returned with a win in fast time. She raced evenly two starts back then made a middle move before tiring last out. Bill Martin wins 24% of first starts after being beaten as the favorite.
3rd: #3 DOWN TO EARTH – in the money in all six starts here and overcame post 10 last out going shorter.
Race Three:
1st: #4 STARSHIP MACYS – beat similar two starts in a row before moving up to open allowance foes off the claim by Mike Pappada. She dropped back down here last out and held well to be third as the 3-2 favorite.
2nd: #1 KICK OUT THE JAMS – didn’t do much here in two sprints but then ran well going two turns on the turf at Belterra Park, where she won from off the pace then just missed against this claiming level. Pablo Morales picks up the mount.
3rd: #2 COOL FRONT – makes her Presque Isle debut after racing well on the turf at Monmouth Park in her last two starts.
Race Four:
1st: #5 WARRIOR’S RANSOM – has had four chances to break her maiden, but they were better than those that have raced. She was an even third going this distance two starts back then ran well going two turns. Pablo Morales picks up the mount.
2nd: #2 LUNA T – after two route tries here, she dropped down to maiden claimers going 5 1/2 furlongs and was only beaten two lengths. She can stalk the pace from the inside and hopefully swing out in the run for home.
3rd: #6 ZORA – was a game third going two turns two starts back then did nothing last out.
Race Five:
1st: #8 MERINO WOOL – beat this claiming level back in August then just missed when moved up in class. When she couldn’t handle that group next time out, she dropped back to this level and won by over six lengths going two turns in fast time.
2nd: #9 BELLE BREZING – was an even fifth in her lone Presque Isle start then she went to Mountaineer Park and beat better optional claimers going two turns on the turf. Daughter of Temple City drops back down in class and tries two turns.
3rd: #5 MIDNIGHT FROST – was a game second here last out going two turns against better claimers.
Race Six:
1st: #3 PATRIOT DRIVE – returned off a brief freshening and was a game second going two turns in fast time. She moved up off the claim last out and tired late in a very fast-paced race. Shelly Radosevich wins 17% with her overall claimers and gets Antonio Gallardo.
2nd: #7 HEIRLOOM KITTEN – used up her first-level allowance condition with a good win two starts back then was an even fourth last out. Son of Kitten’s Joy has won here in the past and drops a notch in class.
3rd: #1 BUGLE BARRY – has run second 10 times here in the past and moves up in class with apprentice Alice Beckman.
Race Seven:
1st: #3 TWILA MAE – horse for the course ran two strong races here back in July then failed when moved up to high-class open company. She was a good second last out in fast time and needs to run back to that race here.
2nd: #5 BABY NO WORRIES – stretches out to two turns off a series of solid sprints. She won two in a row before running fourth against stakes company. Last out when adding Lasix, she rallied for sixth in very fast time and returns eight days later.
3rd: #4 MY PHILLY TWIRL – won three races in a row on turf at Gulfstream Park and now tries Tapeta for Brendan Walsh.
Race Eight:
1st: #8 DR. STEVE – returned to the races off a long layoff and won easily against state-bred allowance foes going six furlongs in fast time. He moves up to open company for Todd Beattie, who wins 17% with his allowance runners.
2nd: #6 HEY PADRE – won his lone Tapeta start at Gulfstream Park last October. Son of Hard Spun raced well against this allowance group two starts in a row on the turf and should be able to work out a trip with Mike Allen.
3rd: #5 FLAWLESS BOURBON – almost went gate to wire here two starts back against this class level and now drops in distance.
