Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024
Dick Powell handicaps Tuesday's card at Presque Isle Downs.
Race 1
1st: (4) KAGERO – took her 12 starts to break her maiden, then came right back against this level and missed by a neck. She was a good second when moved way up in class and drops down to the right level for John Fennessy.
2nd: (1) JAZZ TIME GIRL – broke her maiden two starts back in her first start in seven months, then came back here and missed by a neck as the 6-5 favorite. She draws well for a stalking trip while saving ground.
3rd: (2) RIA FORMOSA – missed by a neck two starts back with a wide rally and then got up for third last out.
Race 2
1st: (4) SLAINTE MHATH – was soundly beaten by 40 lengths in her first two starts this year going short, then stretched out to two turns and was a good second against this maiden claiming level. Jockey Antonio Gallardo has won 26% of the time with his route mounts this year.
2nd: (5) BELLA SKYE – still a maiden after 13 tries but has improved in each of her last three starts. This daughter of Tonalist raced evenly two starts back and then showed good speed last out going this distance.
3rd: (1) REGAL MISS – woke up and showed good speed two starts back against this level, then ran about the same race last out.
Race 3
1st: (5) DIGITAL FOOTPRINT – beat similar competition two starts back in sluggish time but came back with another win much faster as the 17-10 favorite. This son of Giant’s Causeway has prospered since dropping down to this class.
2nd: (7) TIZ TACT TOE – one-dimensional closer rallied for third two starts back going two turns, then raced more evenly last out. He will have to overcome the wide draw for Ed Rojas, who has won 28% of his first starts after being beaten as the favorite.
3rd: (3) ORAZIO – horse for the course just missed two starts back and then lost the lead in the deep stretch last out.

Race 4
1st: (6) COMMODORE BARRY – returns off a 286-day layoff and is not exposed to a claim. He comes back against the same group that he beat last out and gets leading rider Antonio Gallardo.
2nd: (7) CAPTAIN MAD JACK – horse for the course raced evenly in his last two starts here. He has decent early speed that Erin Walker should be able to take advantage. Shelly Radosevich is a 16% winner with her claimers.
3rd: (5) BANDITOFTHEPRAIRIE – returns off a 592-day layoff and drops down to bottom-claimers for the first time.
Race 5
1st: (6) SHAKIN IT UP LARRY – horse for the course went gate to wire to finish last year. He raced evenly in fast time last out and returns against the same group for Randy Russell, who has won 29% of the time with Gaddiel Martinez over the last two months.
2nd: (5) KOTYLOS – beat first-level state-bred allowance foes two starts back when blinkers were put back on, then showed good speed before tiring in fast time. He gets in light again with Brooke Bays.
3rd: (2) VALENTINE BUG – horse for the course rallied from way back to win going away two starts back going two turns.
Race 6
1st: (4) RUNAWAY HARRY – horse for the course is 8-for-9 here. He won both of his starts this year here, then showed good speed before weakening at Colonial Downs on the turf. Back here, he should be the one to catch with Ron Allen Jr.
2nd: (2) STARSHIP EMPIRE – horse for the course just missed two starts back against this level, then made a nice move from off the pace to miss by a head. He draws well and gets Willie Martinez, who has won 26% of the time with his route mounts.
3rd: (6) Q F SEVENTY FIVE – won both of his last starts here against this class but draws outside.
Race 7
1st: (8) ENJOY THE MUSIC – usually runs the same race no matter the level. He missed by a length two starts back from just off the pace, then was close again when moved up to this group. Matt Kintz has won 16% with his sprinters.
2nd: (6) COURT AND SPARK – horse for the course is 4-for-6, including two wins here going six furlongs. He beat similar competition last out and returns three weeks later for Scooter Davis, who has won 27% with his synthetic-track starters.
3rd: (4) RICHIESINTHEHOUSE – 10-year-old horse for the course has won his last two starts here.
Race 8
1st: (10) CHEROKEE CHATTER – raced evenly against better claimers, then dropped to this level and held on well to be second. She draws outside for a stalking trip with Gaddiel Martinez, a 14% winner with his sprint starters.
2nd: (9) SONG OF INDY – horse for the course raced evenly two starts back, then showed good speed before weakening behind the top choice. Mike Rogers wins 15% with his claimers and synthetic-track starts. Martina Rojas returns in the stirrups.
3rd: (8) SO MOXIE – very consistent mare is usually in the money against this level.
