July 16th, 2024

Dick Powell outlines his selections for Tuesday’s card at Presque Isle Downs.

Race One:

1st: (6) BAKERS PRIDE – beat cheap maiden claimers first time out as the 7-5 favorite here four weeks ago. He comes back against conditioned bottom-claimers for Scooter Davis, who wins 25% of the time with his synthetic-track starters.

2nd: (1) TRUSTME IAMADOCTOR – woke up here two starts back with a close second when he almost went gate to wire, then he came back and wired the field from post 11. Mike Trombetta wins 17% with his claiming starters.

3rd: (4) REBEL WARRIOR – didn’t do much here in his lone PID start but has shown good speed on the dirt since then.

Race Two:

1st: (3) BLUE SOLDIER still a maiden after 22 tries, but he has two good thirds here against this maiden level. He draws better and should be ready to run his best in his third start off a layoff.

2nd: (4) LUCIOS ZORAN – held well in his PID debut here two starts back when he opened up a clear lead. He tired the last out when running off, so the blinkers come off in an effort to get him to relax.

3rd: (7) WHISKEY OR WINE – was soundly beaten in all three of his career starts and drops way down in class for Kevin Rice.

Race Three:

1st: (3) WILD DELIGHT – won her first three starts on the Tapeta here last year against solid company. She returned this year with a good second going six furlongs, then came back with an even third when chasing the pace from post 1.

2nd: (4) SHE’S A BOSSY GIRL – ran well in Arizona this winter, then shipped here and missed by less than a length when far back early. She comes back against the same class level for Marcus Vitali, who wins 18% of the time with his route starters.

3rd: (1) HARLAN’S LEGACY – went gate to wire three starts ago, then missed by a length when moved up in class.

Race Four:

1st: (4) UP FOR THE CHANCE – has been stuck at this class level in all three starts this year, but looks ready to move up if can relax early like he did last out. John Fennessy wins 13% going long to short and gets Pablo Morales back aboard.

2nd: (3) TRAVELLER – was right there in the deep stretch two starts back before weakening, then was soundly beaten as the 2-1 favorite when moved up a notch in class.

3rd: (5) DISASTER RECOVERY – graduated two starts back in October when he went gate to wire, then tired badly.

Race Five:

1st: (5) REINVEST – son of Quality Road was beaten to fourth only by a length here two starts back in his Tapeta debut, then was an even third going this distance. He’s back against the same level for Matt Kintz, who wins 33% first start after being beaten as the favorite.

2nd: (2) FACE DOWN – speedball stretches out to two turns with Lasix added for the first time. He was a good third two starts back, then went gate to wire last out. Tim Girten wins 26% of his third starts off a layoff.

3rd: (4) CLARESTOWN – has been running on the turf lately for Scooter Davis, who wins 39% of his first starts out of his barn.

Race Six:

1st: (8) LAST GLIMMER – could not handle top maiden company in her first five career starts, then dropped down to this maiden claiming level and showed better speed. This daughter of Uncle Mo has improved each time and looks ready to graduate.

2nd: (6) R PENELOPE – returned off a long layoff two starts back and showed high speed when blinkers were added. She tired last out, so drops down to maiden claimers for the first time.

3rd: (1) CUPID MISSED – was an even third two starts back in her first start against maiden claimers.

Race Seven:

1st: (6) INTO DISCO – tries Tapeta for the first time after running well on the dirt at Oaklawn Park last year. This daughter of Into Mischief missed by a length in her turf debut. Riley Mott wins 27% of the time going from turf to synthetic.
