Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Tuesday, June 13, 2023

June 13th, 2023

Dick Powell offers his picks and analysis for the Presque Isle Downs card on Tuesday.

Race One:

1st(3) DOWN TO EARTH – overcame post 10 and won going away before finishing up last season with an even fifth. She returned here last month with a sharp win and tries to do it again.

2nd(5) RISATA – ran well on the Tapeta at Turfway Park then did nothing on the dirt at Keeneland. She improved at Belterra when dropped down in class for Ethan West, who wins 24% first start after being beaten as the favorite.

3rd(4) KATESALUCKYGIRL – won her Tapeta debut here against one class better and gets Erin Walker back aboard.

Race Two:

1st(4) TERRAZZO – broke her maiden here almost a year ago when she dominated on the front end. She came back with a good third and now returns 316 days later for Bill Cowans, who wins 19% in this spot and 20% with his overall claimers.

2nd(3) MONEY AND HONEY – was a good third last out in her first start in 14 months, when she battled for the lead every step of the way. She has plenty of back class to handle these, with expected improvement second start off the layoff.

3rd(2) PROTECTTHEWITNESS – has two starts here without any success, but they were against much better company.

Race Three:

1st: (1) BUGLE BARRY – dropped down to this claiming level and was a sharp winner going six furlongs. He comes right back against the same group from the rail and gets in light with Alice Beckman back aboard — 3-for-9 riding for Ryan Walsh.

2nd: (2) CELEBRATORY – rallied nicely to get second two starts back in his first Presque Isle Downs start. He comes back against the same claiming level for Cassondra Weaver, who is 5-for-9 second start off the layoff.

3rd(4) DIGITAL FOOTPRINT – ran well here last year against better then was third against this level last out in his seasonal debut.

Race Four:

1st(6) COUNTY COURT – showed little in his first start off the long layoff as the 3-2 favorite then came back and was a good second last out. Ed Rojas wins 23% with his synthetic-track starters and 17% third start off the layoff.

2nd(8) SNAKERATTLEANDROLL – dropped down to this claiming level in his seasonal debut and won going away, then was third last out as the beaten favorite. Ed Rojas wins 25% first start after being beaten as the favorite.

3rd(2) GREG’S HONOR – one-dimensional closer has won his last two starts, including his Presque Isle debut in decent time.

Race Five:

1st(4) SALIT – raced evenly here last out against open allowance foes. Daughter of American Pharoah drops down to $25K claimers for Matthew Kintz, who wins 19% going long, and his last 148 route starters show a flat-bet profit.

2nd(1) JESS’S GYPSY GIRL – looked good breaking her maiden by over five lengths in her well-bet career debut going seven furlongs on the dirt, then did little in her turf debut. She did nothing next out but shows a bullet workout here for her Tapeta debut.

3rd(7) JULIETTE FALLS – did nothing in her well-bet career debut here two starts back then went gate to wire last October.

Race Six:

1st(6) TREASURED GEM – did little to begin her career on the turf or dirt but woke up on the Tapeta at Gulfstream Park and just missed going gate to wire. Daughter of Medaglia d’Oro tired back on the turf last out at Belmont Park but should be hard to catch.

2nd(9) HARD TO PLEASE – rallied for second going six furlongs on the dirt at Tampa Bay Downs in her well-bet career debut then just missed in her Tapeta debut going a two-turn mile in fast time. Pablo Morales rides back.

3rd(2) EMPTY ENVELOPE – was beaten a combined 87 lengths in her first four career starts on the dirt but showed improvement here last out.

Race Seven:

1st(6) KRISPY RICE – broke her maiden on Tapeta at Turfway Park when Lasix was added. Daughter of Dialed In has had a scattered schedule with many breaks but looked good here last out going six furlongs against this class level with Alice Beckman.

2nd(2) QUARTERFLASH – rallied from way back to get up by a neck going six furlongs on the dirt at Penn National then shipped here and missed by a neck. Tim Girten wins 28% with his overall allowance runners, and the last 107 show a flat-bet profit.

3rd(7) SWEET AMY – did nothing in the first half of her career but has won two of her last three starts.

Race Eight:

1st(5) LITTLE BIG – raced evenly in his Tapeta debut here against much better company. Not sure why he drops so much in class off a decent effort, but here he is for $7.5K. Gaddiel Martinez rides back for Kevin Rice.

2nd(3) KENJI’S EMPIRE – speedball is beginning to hang on better since Lasix was added last out. He drops down a notch in class and drops seven pounds with apprentice rider Martina Rojas.

3rd(1) SPIRITED DEBATE – could be dangerous as he makes his second start off the layoff after blinkers were added last out.
