Presque Isle Downs Selections and Analysis for Tuesday, June 27, 2023

June 26th, 2023

Dick Powell offers his selections for the Tuesday card at Presque Isle Downs.

Race One:

1st(2) ALATION – broke her maiden in her last start in September. Off until May, she was an even third in a wide trip against this allowance level then was a dull third after being shuffled back from post one.

2nd(5) RAINAS ROLLIN – just missed by a head in her seasonal debut but was put up by the stewards. She came back with an even fourth behind the top choice last out and should be fit in her third start off the layoff.

3rd(4) CHEAP AND CHEERFUL – could be dangerous in here since she is very fast and adds Lasix for the first time.

Race Two:

1st(2) GOVERNOR ATWOOD – still a maiden after 11 tries but many came against better maiden claimers. He tired two starts back here but came back and rallied for second in good time against this level.

2nd(6) RED GUN – was an even fourth against much better maidens then lost all chance when he went up at the start and trailed. Son of the speedy Kantharos drops down in class and gets Addiel Ayala back aboard.

3rd(1) SPIRITED DEBATE – speedball breaking from the rail added blinkers in his last two starts with little effect.

Race Three:

1st: (2) TIZ PROMISING RVF – raced evenly at six furlongs over a tiring track but benefitted from it last out when stretched out to two turns and she won going away. Willie Martinez rides back — flat-bet profit with his route rides.

2nd: (4) BEAUTIFUL STAR – has had three starts this season over the Tapeta here without much effect, but he was only beaten three lengths last out and drops down to bottom claimers for Gerry Brooks, who wins 19% with his overall claimers.

3rd(5) REDHOT KATIE – was an even third against this claiming level two starts back then ran better when moved up in price.

Race Four:

1st(1) JAMA DILLON – did nothing two starts back when blinkers were added going six furlongs, but he woke up when dropped in class and stretched out to two turns. Kevin Rice wins with 18% of his claiming starts, and the last 192 show a flat-bet profit.

2nd(2) ORAZIO – beat this claiming level going two turns on the Tapeta at Turfway Park then shipped here and raced evenly. He raced wide in a long sprint here last out and stretches back out for Shelly Radosevich.

3rd(3) MARV’S MAGIC – has plenty of back class, but the one-dimensional closer will have a lot to overcome even on the drop.

Race Five:

1st(6) WAPITI WAY – just missed two starts back against this claiming level in his second start of the year. Claimed that day, he was beaten five lengths when moved up off the claim and now drops back down seven days later while picking up Pablo Morales.

2nd(1) SAMURAI LEGACY – speedy horse for the course beat this level in fast time last August. He been facing better since then until dropping down in class last out when he pressed the pace from post eight.

3rd(2) YADI – returns to the races off a long layoff and has the claiming tag waived by Cathy Rozantz.

Race Six:

1st(5) HEAVENLY HASH – was claimed for $15K three starts back at Turfway Park then came here and was a good third after she loomed boldly in the deep stretch. She tired badly last out when stretched out to two turns and returns to a sprint.

2nd(6) RAINBOW’S PRIDE – ships in from Tampa Bay Downs after four starts on the dirt against quality maidens. He just missed there last out when blinkers were added for the first time and now he shows up as a new gelding.

3rd(3) COLONEL POPPY – improved here with blinkers and Lasix added. He almost went gate to wire last out.

Race Seven:

1st(6) CHARLOTTE THE BRIT – returned to the races here two starts back and won easily then came back and did it again. She meets the same group of claimers for Ed Rojas, who wins 31% first start after a win.

2nd(4) RIVERSIDE WALK – speedball horse for the course finished up last year with a gate-to-wire victory as the even-money favorite against this level. She came back and tired last out in her first start off the long layoff for Larry Hayes.

3rd(5) CHEWY CHEWY GOOD – just missed with a furious late rally two starts back then won going away last out against cheaper.

Race Eight:

1st(3) CLEMSON TIGER – was soundly beaten in three starts on the turf at Tampa Bay Downs then shipped here and was a good second when dropped to this level. He improved last out in better time with Addiel Ayala back aboard.

2nd(6) K. K. ICHIKAWA – ran well to finish up last year against similar. Off for seven months, he prepped for this with a dull effort on the dirt at Finger Lakes. Mike LeCesse wins 15% second start off the layoff and gets Pablo Morales back aboard.

3rd(1) BATTLE CREEK – has had two starts on the Tapeta here but his last was much improved and he draws the rail.
