October 15th, 2024

Dick Powell offers his selections for the Tuesday program at Presque Isle Downs.

Race 1

1st: (2) ECHO BAYBE – tries Tapeta after four straight tries in New York. She chased the pace in a turf sprint at Saratoga from post 9 and now draws inside with blinkers added. Jeremiah Englehart wins 18% against this maiden level.

2nd: (6) PURR FACTOR – still a maiden after nine tries, mostly on turf, but she shipped here and missed breaking her maiden by a neck for Ethan West, who wins 15% with his overall sprinters. Daughter of The Factor has the advantage of training on Tapeta.

3rd: (1) TACTICAL JOKE – speedball breaks from the rail in her Tapeta debut for Brittany Russell.

Race 2

1st: (3) POKER PARTNER – dropped down to this conditioned claiming level two starts back on the dirt at Thistledown and just missed going gate to wire. Then he ran about the same race there as the odds-on favorite.

2nd: (1) PENTATONIC – broke his maiden in his 13th try two starts back in his first start off the claim by Brandon Kulp. He came back here and went gate to wire against similar company for Kulp, who wins 23% first start after a win.

3rd: (2) CHIPS LEGACY – moves up in class off two solid tries here for Randy Russell, who wins 27% with Gaddiel Martinez.

Race 3

1st: (6) MAIDEN LANE – ran well in two straight sprints, then stretched out to this distance and won easily in good time. She came back to race evenly in a sprint but stretches back out to two turns for Tim Hamm, who wins 19% going short to long.

2nd: (5) RIGHT NOW – has some decent back class, then dropped down to this level and was a game second. She can sit on or off the pace with Antonio Gallardo riding for Tim Girten – 29% when together.

3rd: (2) CAT ONE – moved up off the claim two starts back but ran much better last time out.

Race 4

1st: (9) JOYS OF SUMMER – has run the best of those who have raced and now drops down to maiden claimers. Daughter of Summer Front draws outside for a clear stalking trip with Israel Rodriguez – 16% with his sprint rides.

2nd: (3) COURAGEOUS ARI – still a maiden after seven tries and faces maiden claimers for the first time. She has shown better gate speed since adding blinkers and could be tough if she makes it to the front.

3rd: (1) INSTABRAT – her last two starts were not bad, and she draws the rail again for Hamm.

Race 5

1st: (3) GOTHAM GRAY – just missed two starts back here when she pressed the pace, then stalked wide from post 9 last out as the lukewarm favorite. Daughter of Frosted takes another drop in class and gets Antonio Gallardo.

2nd: (8) NEXT DOT – speedball went gate to wire to break her maiden in her 14th start. She raced against much better company last out and drops down to the right level for Kim Schneider. Victor Severino wins 10% with his sprint rides.

3rd: (1) SAWEETIE GIRL – raced at Mountaineer Park’s turf course four races in a row, then shipped here and raced evenly.

Race 6

1st: (1) KNIGHT LEGEND – beat this class level at the end of last year, then raced against allowance foes. He dropped down to this level and was an even third, then ran about the same race when moved back up to allowance company.

2nd: (4) UNCLE KENNY – horse for the course raced evenly two starts in a row against allowance foes, then was a game second as the 7-5 favorite last out. Ron Potts wins 31% first start after being beaten as the favorite.

3rd: (5) INTERNAL CAPITAL – won his PID debut two starts back, then was a good third going nine furlongs against allowance foes.

Race 7

1st: (6) TARSUS WARRIOR – broke his maiden by seven lengths as the 1-10 favorite second time out, then came right back to beat state-bred allowance foes for Girten, who wins 23% first start after a win and 29% with Gallardo.

2nd: (1) OSKAR MARTINEZ – just missed on the turf at Colonial Downs, then broke his maiden by 2 1/2 lengths when blinkers were added there. Arnaud Delacour wins 29% first start after a maiden win and 26% with this surface switch.

3rd: (2) ROCKET DRAGON – broke his maiden early in his career, so he’s been in against winners ever since.

Race 8

1st: (3) TRAVELLER – raced evenly two starts back, then opened up a huge lead before being run down in the deep stretch when blinkers were added. He has some Brisnet Speed ratings that are good enough to beat these at long odds.

2nd: (1) AULT – horse for the course comes in here after tiring in his last two starts. Bill Martin wins 14% with his claimers, and Gallardo rides the 12-year-old son of English Channel back.

3rd: (2) CANADIAN GAME – dropped down to this class level with a good second from post 9, then ran evenly going two turns.
