June 27th, 2023

Dick Powell offers his selections for the Wednesday card at Presque Isle Downs.

Race One:

1st(2) OUT FOR MYSELF – went gate to wire as the even-money favorite on the dirt at Mountaineer two starts back then showed speed before fading on the turf there going two turns. She drops way down in class for her Presque Isle debut and gets Addiel Ayala.

2nd(6) HAZARD – didn’t show much in her first six career starts against better maidens but broke her maiden by a head when dropped down in class here. Phil Schoenthal wins 21% with his overall claimers, and he gets Pablo Morales.

3rd(4) JESSICA BLAH BLAH – was beaten 22 lengths two starts back here to begin the year but broke her maiden last out.

Race Two:

1st(4) VASSAR’S BOY – won here last year in his Tapeta debut then was outrun in his next four starts against much better company. He dropped down in class here last out and won as the 3-5 favorite.

2nd(2) LEONARD’S LEGACY – beat similar company two starts back in his first start in over seven months then was a good third when moved up in class. He drops back down to the right level for Randy Russell.

3rd(1) RED HURRICANE – went gate to wire on the Tapeta at Gulfstream Park two starts back then raced evenly here going six.

Race Three:

1st: (4) HONOR LEO JEAN – romped by over five lengths in his first at two turns on the dirt at Tampa Bay Downs then ran well there on the turf. Freshened up a bit, he shows up here as a new gelding and gets Morales.

2nd: (2) AMERICA’S GUEST – won his Tapeta debut here two starts back when he dropped way down in class. Claimed that day, he came back and was beaten less than a length against class and distance.

3rd(6) WORLDS ON HIGH – just missed against this class and distance last out as the 13-10 favorite.

Race Four:

1st(2) MOBEER – beat open company allowance foes two starts back going six furlongs in fast time on the dirt at Penn National then tired badly in a stakes race there. Todd Beattie wins 18% with his synthetic-track starters and gets Morales.

2nd(6) YOUMUSTBEA WEASLEY – only 1-for-18 here but has run well here against this state-bred allowance level, with two seconds and two thirds in four tries. Kevin Rice wins 26% third start off the layoff and 23% after being beaten as the favorite.

3rd(1) MORNING MARCH – was an even third against this class level in his Tapeta debut off a long layoff.

Race Five:

1st(1) CHEROKEE CHATTER – horse for the course beat open allowance foes last out in good time in her second start of the season. Since she has run for cheaper claiming tags, she is eligible for this level and will be hard to beat.

2nd(3) EVERY LITTLE BIT – she beat $12,500 claimers last out by four easy lengths as the 3-2 favorite and because of that start, she is eligible for this optional claiming race. Alice Beckman will try to put her on the lead and run away.

3rd(6) QUEEN OF CHILL – made her Presque Isle debut a winning one two starts back then was a game second against similar company.

Race Six:

1st(1) SIDE TRACKED – horse for the course returned to the races last out off the long layoff and missed by a neck. He moves up in class for Ron Potts, who wins 23% second start off the layoff, and the last 71 show a flat-bet profit.

2nd(3) JO JO HANS – was only beaten five lengths against open allowance foes going two turns then dropped down in class and distance and won as the 7-5 favorite. Ed Rojas wins 29% first start off the claim.

3rd(6) ZERO GRAVITY – raced evenly in decent time and now drops down in class with blinkers added.

Race Seven:

1st(6) BABY NO WORRIES – was a good third in a Grade 3 stakes race on the Tapeta at Woodbine then did little in a turf sprint there. Tim Girten wins 27% with his allowance starters and 20% with his synthetic-track starters.

2nd(5) JILL JITTERBUG – versatile filly has run well on Tapeta at three different tracks against stakes horses. She missed by a neck last out at Woodbine as the 11-10 favorite and gets Pablo Morales — 25% with his sprint rides.

3rd(3) TAP THE TITTLES – ran well here last year winning her first two career starts then was second on the dirt off the layoff.

Race Eight:

1st(6) EXTRASEXYBIGDADDEE – horse for the course returned off a short rest and missed by a head despite severe traffic problems. Mike Trombetta wins 20% second start off the layoff and 29% first start after being beaten as the favorite.

2nd(3) GET EVEN – made his Tapeta debut here and showed some speed in a sprint but stretched out to two turns and led to the final yards at long odds. If he breaks well, he could be tough to catch with Mike Allen back aboard.

3rd(2) VAN – returned off a 14-month layoff and was an even fourth in a wide trip from post eight against this allowance level.
