Wallyworld VII at Pompano resulted in some scattered success for Wally and the Never-Wallys. He wound up with a mount in Race 1 (he lost to a favorite) though he was not listed when we posted. We picked up at Race 2, where Wally won on the public choice and we finished third with Dance Hall Brawler ($4.00).

In Race 4 a 6-1 won, Wally lost and so did we with Roger Pray It (20-1) and Kashe (30-1), two horses returning to our Horses-to-Watch list (H2W).

In Race 5 a favorite won, Wally lost and we were second with Terror Time A ($5.40, $3.00), igniting a $19.40 exacta.

Race 6 was declared No Contest due to an accident that affected the outcome. Refunds were given to all bettors. In the following race, Wally won on another low-priced horse, while we finished sixth with Lt Col JE Leonard (8-1). Wall won Race 8 on another public choice. In that event, our Never-Wally choice, Caroline GR, scratched.

Power Plays involved single-race exotics in Races 6 and 7 along with wherever exotics the pair were included before and after them. Chalk won Race 6, where we went one for four in the $78.20 superfecta with Shady Madam (16-1).

In Race 7 our winner, Legal Transfer ($4.60, $2.60, $3.40 ok) was the public choice, as well as a $184.70 Pick-4 contribution (Races 6—9). Along with the winner, we went two for three in the $15.10 trifecta with N Expense ($3.60) finishing third. When Moonwards Hanover took fourth we were three for four in the $24.79 superfecta.

Two features were the subjects. The first, Race 2, got off to a great start, as the well-rested Victoryisalluneed (8-1) left hard from the outside for a quick duel with the race favorite to get the lead. When Victoryisalluneed won the duel, she broke and was eliminated. A 19-1 shot beat the favorite to win.

The second Meadowlands feature of the night offered a fine performance by Father Sarducci (13-1), though he finished fourth to an overwhelming favorite.

H2W LIST RESULTS

The H2W results list across-the-board prices. Also, exactas listed are included when a H2W horse finishes second with a race favorite or the first two finishers making up the exacta are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses were listed to complete a cold exacta). The note “ok” determines that prices published are correct even when a show price exceeds a place price or any or all of the prices are the same. This week, there were 53 active horses (a 13-percent win hit rate and a 34-percent ATB [across-the-board] hit rate).

Please note that some H2W results reflect win, place, show and exotic results occurring by press time but some horses race after the blog is posted (we list them the following weeks) It is up to you to follow horses that have not performed before this weekly review.

News & Notes

Shartin N, the United States Harness Writers Association’s 2019 Horse of the Year, makes her first start of the year at Dover in the 12th race on Wednesday, March 4. Anyone near a harness racing article last season, was aware she deserves the title. For one, her 1:46.4 mile is the fastest for a female pacer in harness history. She has bankrolled over $2 million lifetime. Her connections say her racing schedule will be lighter this season.

Yonkers Raceway announced an upcoming purse increase. Yonkers offers a nearly across-the-board purse increase of approximately 10 percent as of Monday, March 2. The increase is applied to all overnight classes, save for bottom-level claimers and bottom-level conditions. The new purse structure will range from $10,000 to $44,000.

Once again, we repeat our Hawthorne Race Course announcement. The 92-night harness season is in progress. The draw for races, however, is after our posting deadline, so we are not including horses for races in our H2W. Yet. We hope not to omit Hawthorne horses as the long meet ensues. We will do what we can for Hawthorne bettors at TwinSpires. If draws are not held to make our H2W’s deadline, look on Twitter @FrankCotolo for H2W horses.
