Quarter Horse Trainer Trey Wood on Top at Remington Park
Quarter Horse trainer Trey Wood is off to a blazing start this year. He is
currently the leading conditioner at Remington Park, with 23 wins from 88 starts and purse earnings over $662,000 since the meet began on March 10.
He has won two stakes this season, beginning with a solid score from Sam Crow in the $61,800 Mr Jet Moore Stakes for Oklahoma-breds and Tough To Bee, the winner of the $61,800 Mr Master Bug Stakes on April 23.
The 26-year-old, is a proud third-generation horseman. His grandfather, Leo won the 1979 All American Futurity with Pie in the Sky. Trey's dad, Blane Wood has been a highly respected trainer for over three decades, winning over 700 races, including the 1996 Ruidoso Futurity with Haulin Pass.
Wood was a promising high school quarterback, who had scholarship offers to play college football. But his passion for racehorses won out and he has built a very solid career in a short time. Some trainers never win a seven-figure race; Wood was just 22 when his Texas-bred, Bodacious Dash surprised in the Grade 1, $1,036,612

Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park. Since then, he has added three more wins in the premier race at Lone Star Park, including last year’s running with High Plains Perry.
There is quite a bit of loyalty in the Wood camp, not only with owners, but a strong bond has developed between Trey and his first-call rider, Ricky Ramirez. Wood and his family live in Brock, Texas, just two miles from legendary horsemen, C. Wayne "Sleepy" Gilbreath.
Look for more trips to the winner’s circle this meet at Remington Park and another solid showing when the Ruidoso Downs Quarter Horse meet kicks off next month.
