Racing around the world: Picks for Royal Randwick, Royal Ascot, and Kenilworth

There is some fantastic racing from all over the world this weekend, and you can watch and wager on it all from the BetAmerica app and website.

The excitement kicks off in Australia on Friday night, when Sydney’s premier track, Royal Randwick, is the headline act. But Aussie racing for the night will also include Doomben, the Gold Coast, and Ascot.

Speaking of Ascot, on the other side of the world Saturday morning, Royal Ascot in England will hold the final jumps meeting before Christmas. Read on for a pick in the Silver Cup.

Also on Saturday morning, South Africa will host a Grade 1 meeting at Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town.

Randwick, Race 1: #12 Stray (Friday, 8:40 p.m. ET)

This well-bred 2-year-old filly, from the barn of leading Sydney trainer Anthony Cummings, is a first-time starter.

She did, however, have a sneaky trial over 4 1/2 furlongs at Randwick just a few days ago. In that trial, she was caught very wide the entire trip, but after she swung into the stretch and balanced up, she worked to the line well and won.

It was a bit wet that day and she seemed to get through the soft conditions nicely, which is a good sign, as there has been a bit of rain around Sydney this week.

At those healthy 18-1 morning line odds, I think Stray represents terrific value in the opening event on the card. 

Royal Ascot, Race 5: #4 Regal Encore (Saturday, 10 a.m. ET)

This is the Ascot Silver Cup, a listed chase over 3 miles.

Believe it or not, Regal Encore is a 12-year-old! I’m pretty certain he doesn’t know he is 12, though — not based on his season-opening performance, anyway!

On that occasion, he jumped superbly and was a convincing winner over this course and trip.

Last time out, he was pulled up at Newbury, but I’m not too concerned about that. The old boy seems to grow another leg at Ascot and will appreciate getting back to the right-handed track.

Kenilworth, Race 7: #2 Malmoos (Saturday, 9:45 a.m. ET)

This is the biggest race in South Africa on Saturday — the Cape Guineas (G1) at Kenilworth in Cape Town.

Malmoos looks to be a superstar in the making.

He is undefeated through his first four starts, and in each of his wins, he has shown an incredible turn of foot to put his opposition away down the stretch.

Last time out, he stepped out at Kenilworth for the first time and scored a win over the same track and trip he will contest Saturday.

He looks to be a progressive type, and despite the tricky post position, I’m confident he can keep his unblemished record alive with another victory.
