Rosecroft kicks off 2018 campaign on Sunday
Following a modest two-month hiatus for the winter, Rosecroft Raceway kicked off its 2018 live racing slate on Sunday evening with a formful card that offered plenty of promise for future payoffs.
In the opening race on the card, Mister Travel (Russell Foster) overcame a brief first over bid to edge the pocket-sitting Sunshinesomewhere (Jonathan Roberts) to capture a non-winners of three races lifetime class in 1:55 as the 8-5 favorite. A six-year-old Mister Big gelding owned and trained by Eric Foster, Mister Travel kicked off his campaign with a new lifetime mark and now owns four wins and $27,000 banked from 52 starts.
One race later in a non-winners of $3000 last five starts class for trotters, Windsun Cobra (Jason Thompson) overcame an extended first over bid and cleared before three-quarters and just held safe Lucky Mass (Roger Plante, Jr.) for a neck score in 1:57.3. A seven-year-old Kadabra gelding owned and trained by Jonathan Nikodemski, Windsun Cobra notched his first win in five starts this year and now owns 13 victories and $144,000 banked from 114 career tries.
Then right at the midway point of the card, Frankie Boy (Allan Davis) brushed to command before the half and then began to widen his advantage down the backside and through the far turn and drew clear in the lane to a six-length score in 1:53.2. A six-year-old Artistic Fella gelding trained by Lewis Nunes, Frankie Boy kicked off his 2018 campaign with a sharp score and now owns a 10-6-8 slate and $66,000 bankroll from 68 career tries.
Then two races later in the $10,000 Open Handicap for aged pacers, Too Darn Hot (Allan Davis) brushed to command before the opener in 26.4, got a breather to the half in 56 flat, raced unpressed down the backside and by three-quarters in 1:24.1 then held safe Rocktavius (Jonathan Roberts) to score by nearly a length in 1:51.3. A six-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding trained by Joe Hundertpfund, Jr., Too Darn Hot notched his second straight tally and recorded his third win in six starts and earned nearly $14,000 and now boasts 16 wins and $153,000 banked from 80 career tries.
