Rosecroft offers final card of 2017
Last Saturday marked the final night of live racing for 2017 at Rosecroft Raceway and the track honored its leading horses and humans two nights before Christmas Day.
In the opening race on the card, Winter Games (Jonathan Roberts) overcame a parked-the-mile journey to prevail by five lengths as the 6-5 favorite in a non-winners of $4000 last five starts class for pacing fillies and mares. A three-year-old daughter of Bettor's Delight owned and trained by William "Bib" Roberts of Yankee Co-Ed and Trapeze fame, Winter Games concluded her sophomore campaign with a 9-4-3 slate and $41,000 banked from 25 starts after being unraced at age two.
One race later on the card, Whitesville Dixon (David Hill, III) benefited from a second over trip behind 2-1 favorite Bwt Taj (Russell Foster) and overhauled that one in the lane to capture a non-winners of $2500 last five starts class for trotters in 1:59.3. A five-year-old Doggone Yankee gelding owned, bred and trained by Gary White, Whitesville Dixon concluded the campaign with a 5-3-6 slate and $30,000 banked from 28 starts and his latest score pushed his career bankroll past $100,000 courtesy of his 10th win from 64 lifetime tries.
Several races later on the card, Psychic Blue Chip (Frank Milby) concluded the stellar conclusion to her freshman campaign when she swept to command three-wide on the far turn and held sway through the lane for a three-length score in 1:55.3. A two-year-old daughter of Art Major owned and trained by Jeff Clark, Psychic Blue Chip notched her second straight victory and her fourth win in her last five outings and finished her freshman season with a 4-4-1 slate and $24,500 banked from 13 starts.
Two races later in the $10,000 Open Handicap for older pacers, Kiss A Dragon (Foster) capped a stellar meet by rallying second over and three-wide late to romp home seven lengths clear in 1:50.4 as the 9-5 choice. A five-year-old Dragon Again gelding owned, trained and driven by Foster, Kiss A Dragon ended his season with two straight wins and five wins in his last seven outings and ended the campaign with a 9-4-7 slate and $73,000 banked from 40 starts.
Rocktavius (Roberts) settled for minor spoils on Saturday, but the four-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding owned and trained by Roberts was honored as the track's horse of the meet by members of the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the United States Harness Writers Association. Rocktavius was dominant earlier in the meet, capped by a score in the $20,000 Maryland Invitation in 1:50.3 one race before Keystone Velocity prevailed in 1:47.3 in the second annual $100,000 Potomac Pace Invitational for older pacers.
