Santa Anita: How to bet the undercard stakes on Oct. 1
Santa Anita race track has a loaded card Friday, here are suggestions from TwinSpires.
The $300,000 American Pharoah S. (G1) is the headliner of a fantastic day of racing at Santa Anita on Friday. But there are plenty of other important races on the slate, with a pair of “Breeders’ Cup Win and You’re In” series events and another that will have a major impact at Del Mar during the first weekend of November.
Race 5 -- Speakeasy S.
Seven will go postward eyeing a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G2). I see this as a two-horse race between Victoria S. romper #2 One Timer and sharp maiden winner #7 Time to Party. The pair of geldings each have a lot of upside, and an exacta box with the duo will be my play

- $20 exacta box 2-7 ($40)
Race 6 -- Chandelier S. (G2)
A total of seven juvenile lassies will vie for a spot in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). It’s hard to look past #4 Grace Adler for Baffert following her emphatic, 11-length stroll in the Del Mar Debutante (G1). The unbeaten Curlin filly has the look of a superstar.
John Sadler’s #1 Electric Ride was super-impressive in a six-furlong debut victory at Del Mar. The $250,000 Daredevil filly is a question mark going 1 1/16 miles at this stage of her development, but the Indiana-bred couldn’t have looked much better last time out, and the rail post will aid her chances on Friday. She has to be included, as does #2 Ain’t Easy for Philip d’Amato. The latter rolled home to a fine score at first asking and has a high ceiling.

- $25 exacta 4 with 1 ($25)
- $10 exacta 4 with 2 ($10)
Race 7 -- Eddie D. S. (G2)
An excellent field of nine will run 6 ½ grassy panels down the hill in a great betting event.
In a race lacking an abundance of pace, #5 Law Abidin Citizen could receive an advantageous trip while forcing the action from the start. The Mark Glatt trainee has obvious class to him, and the seven-year-old gelding is a four-time winner on the course, as well. He’s worth a shot under Abel Cedillo.
#7 Lieutenant Dan has sizzling form and is the one to beat for trainer Steve Miyadi. The Grazen gelding will be very tough with his best in making a third run off the lengthy absence.
Wager
- $20 win #5 Law Abidin Citizen ($20)
- $10 exacta box 5-7 ($20)
