Saturday Play of the Day Early in the Day at Woodbine

Woodbine’s 10-race card on Saturday is headlined by Lexie Lou’s appearance in the Victoriana Stakes in the 2014 Queen’s Plate winner’s first start since winning the Dance Smartly Stakes on Queen’s Plate day this year, but she will be odds on in this spot, and we have our eyes (and wagering dollars) on other targets.

And the primary target is at 1 p.m. EDT with the opening race, an otherwise nondescript 5-furlong dash for bottom level claimers on Tapeta, but what have we here? A morning line favorite with some things working against her?

#7 Cavalletta is the 8-to-5 choice here, and while she fits this class, she by no means has it over a barrel, and while she has some early speed, she’s not the fastest in that regard, and the far outside post has not been a good starting spot in these short sprints at Woodbine.

#4 Starship Sabrina, on the other hand, has these things going for her. She’s dropping to this level off decent efforts against better, has the top early pace ratings of the group, and a cozy middle starting spot. Throw in the best last-out Speed Rating and top Prime Power ranking, and even at 2-to-1 Starship Sabrina represents value and is our pick to start the day at Woodbine.
