Saturday Stakes Analysis for Woodbine
A pair of graded stakes contests will highlight a nice card at Woodbine on Saturday, and I have found a few horses with value that are worth including in my wagers.
Race 8 – Ontario Colleen S. (G3)
A huge cast of 13 three-year-old fillies will travel one mile on the green in an intriguing betting affair. I’m not sure that #5 Uphill Dance can win the race, but the Rachel Halden trainee has improved her Brisnet Speed number in each lifetime appearance and looked good when second in the Alywow S. in her grassy debut most recently. The Tonalist sophomore stretches out in distance for her second run of the season, and she fits pretty well in the heat if she takes another step forward under Ryan Munger. And the price will be fair, as well.
#13 Airosa will make her three-year-old debut in the event for conditioner Kevin Attard. The Uncle Mo filly faces a tough task while breaking from a demanding outside post, but she is 2-for-3 on the surface with a stakes triumph, and I feel that the filly will be somewhat overlooked in the wagering. Rafael Hernandez riding adds to her appeal.
Race 9 – Seagram Cup S. (G2)
The 1 1/16-mile event for the boys attracted nine. #2 Money Supply has proven to be a fine late runner on both the main oval and the lawn, and the son of Practical Joke is interesting while making his synthetic debut on this occasion. The bay has been in excellent form since being claimed for $35,000 in August, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Kentucky-bred takes to the Woodbine surface. Sofia Vives will take the reins.
#3 Volcanic might be a bit of a stretch for trainer Mark Casse, but the gelding has run some big races on the All Weather in Florida and could be any kind in his seasonal bow. The son of Violence is dangerous when he secures the early lead, and the five-year-old looks like the inside pace of the race to me. If the chestnut isn’t hounded early on, then he becomes a viable upset threat with Rafael Hernandez taking the reins.
