Saturday's notable 2-year-old maidens: 5th at Saratoga

While Show Bound obviously sets the standard off his second in the Bashford Manor (G3), I suspect that wasn't a very deep field overall and am treading warily about him.

Crosstown Route, who commanded $250,000 as a weanling, has a pedigree to match. A Speightstown half-brother to juvenile stakes winner Top Seed, he is out of a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 queen Golden Ballet, the dam of Drosselmeyer. The Rick Violette pupil fired a bullet half-mile to polish off his prep at Aqueduct. Voodoo Wave, a Forestry half-brother to multiple stakes-winning sprinter Zero Rate Policy, just blasted three furlongs from the gate in :35 3/5 at Monmouth. Javier Castellano is a notable jockey booking for trainer Terri Pompay.

Set the Trappe, a $300,000 Saratoga yearling, has been training well for Tony Dutrow. By freshman sire Trappe Shot, he is out of a Broad Brush mare, and his second dam is Black-Eyed Susan (G2) winner and graded stakes producer Miss Legality. The Brian Lynch-trained Horner Man is another likely ready for his premiere. He should be quick, as a son of Congrats, and his dam is Grade 2-placed multiple stakes queen Cee's Irish.

Saratoga Mischief has a pretty sparse catalog page for a $360,000 Saratoga yearling bound for the Pletcher barn, so this Into Mischief colt must have brought a very good physical into the equation. Greenpointcrusader, a $575,000 Keeneland September yearling, has a mouthwatering pedigree as a full brother to unbeaten Holy Bull (G3) winner Algorithms and a half-brother to Justin Phillip and Keyed Entry. The May 14 foal is the youngest baby in this field, and I'm tempted to say he'll be better in time. On the other hand, that was no hindrance to Algorithms, who won very early as a May foal himself.

Silvertown, third to eventual Bashford Manor winner (and Sanford runner) He's Comin in Hot on debut, should move forward substantially for Kenneally. Yet with a turf-oriented maternal half, this son of Speightstown might find his true home on the lawn. Deep in a Dream only brought $27,000 as a yearling, but he's a well bred son of Quiet American who descends from Lotka. Owner/trainer Wesley Ward has had him gelded since his debut flop. Condominium was entitled to bring $400,000 here last August as a son of Tiznow and Debutante (G3) winner Garden District (herself a half-sister to Medal Count). Love the pedigree, but I'll give him a run first, in keeping with Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas' typical pattern.
