Shane's Girlfriend sets stakes record in Delta Downs Princess

November 19th, 2016

Shane's Girlfriend will enter winter quarters undefeated from two starts and a serious long-term Kentucky Oaks (G1) prospect after coasting to a 13 1/4-length victory in the Saturday's $400,000 Delta Downs Princess (G3).

Not only was the margin of victory a stakes record, but so was the daughter of Adios Charlie's final time of 1:37.98 for one mile over a fast track.

The 3-1 second choice in a field of 10, Shane's Girlfriend tracked in second behind Flatter Up as that rival set fractions of :23.06, :47.16, and 1:11.71. Cutting the margin down from a length to a head with a quarter-mile to go, Shane's Girlfriend opened up soon after and demolished the field under Flavien Prat.

Owned by the partnership of ERJ Racing, W. C. Racing, and Dennis O'Neill, Shane's Girlfriend paid $8.80. Cajun Delta Dawn, an 8-1 chance, rallied for second, 2 1/2 lengths ahead of the 19-1 Flatter Up. Golden Mischief, the 5-2 favorite, finished seventh after trailing the field at the first call.

Trained by Doug O'Neill, the Florida-bred filly exited a debut victory at Santa Anita on October 28, achieved by 5 3/4 lengths going six furlongs. She's now earned $271,200. She's now earned $271,200 and with this victory earned 10 qualifying points toward 2017 Kentucky Oaks eligibility.

Bred by Ocala Stud, Shane's Girlfriend was reared by Western Tornado, a daughter of Proud Citizen. This is the same family as multiple Grade 1 winner Critical Eye and current multiple Grade 2 turf winner Takeover Target.

Shane's Girlfriend brought $95,000 at OBS earlier this year.
