Shapiro's Sunday Pick 4 at Gulfstream

The racing week at Gulfstream Park concludes with a late Pick 4 sequence that is comprised of four sprints. With rain in the forecast be sure to check the track condition and whether the first leg is on the lawn or is washed off the grass.

Race 7:

If this optional claimer remains on the turf, #7 Good Bye Greg is the likely favorite. The Florida-bred has not been seen since last October where he finished second in an allowance event over the Mountaineer main track, but has won 13 of 23 lifetime starts, including 2 of 5 over the turf. The 9-year-old attracts Irad Ortiz Jr and makes a ton of sense, but will have to deal with speed to both his inside and outside. This could set things up for #3 Apache Brave who should find a comfortable pocket trip in his second start off the claim for Georgina Baxter or #8 Life in Shambles who will be rolling late if they go too quick early on.

If the seventh gets taken off the sod, #10 Trev will be tough to deny. The 10-year-old gelding has not been seen since last December, but has won four straight and has thrived over an off going throughout his 40-race career. If he takes too much heat early or needs a race off the bench, #14 Vinnie Van Go is likeliest to spring the upset.

Race 8:

#3 Yodel E.A. Who broke slowly in his most recent start on Apr. 17 and never got into the race. Saffie Joseph Jr. drops the son of Creative Cause into a spot where he should sit a perfect stalking trip off of longshot #4 Create Again. He will be very tough to beat if he can avoid another poor beginning.

Race 9:

#2 Frosted Grace ran a big race on Mar. 26, but was run down late by 4-5-favorite Soldado. The Mark Valeski colt is a deserving top choice on the morning line in this 6-furlong dash, but he has struggled to win races of late and has failed to put forth his best efforts in two tries over an off going. I will take a chance against the likely odds-on favorite with #5 Fuel the Bern in his second start of 2020 and #6 Where Paradise Lay, who got a confidence booster versus lesser last month and has run well over a wet track.

Race 10:

The pace should be honest in the Sunday finale given the presence of #1 Harryhee, #5 Who’s in Charge, #7 Lord Adare, and #8 Atthepearlygates, so I will look to runners that do their best running late. #4 South Sea, #10 Quijote, and #11 Front Loaded will take plenty of support at the windows and all make a lot of sense, but #3 All Around and #9 Benefactor also have legitimate chances. All Around has been on the sidelines since mid-January, but has the right running style and has run well over the off going. Benefactor drops in class after being outrun versus better on Apr. 17. The son of More Than Ready is past his prime, but he should get a favorable voyage drawn outside all of the speed.
