Sierra Leone, Tarifa early favorites in Kentucky Derby and Oaks future pools

The fifth pool of the 2024 Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW) and the 2024 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager (KOFW) will be offered concurrently this week for three days, beginning at noon ET on Friday.

Both pools will offer $2 win and exacta wagering and there will be a separate pool where fans can bet the Oaks/Derby Double. Wagering on the KDFW closes Sunday at 6 p.m. and the KOFW  will close at 6:30 p.m.

The KDFW is headed by #30 Sierra Leone, the Risen Star (G2) winner who was installed as the 5-1 early choice among the 39 individual entries. There is also a fortieth option of all other three-year-olds.

Sierra Leone is expected to race next in the Blue Grass (G1) at Keeneland on April 6. There are no Road to the Kentucky Derby series preps this weekend.

The KOFW is headed by #33 Tarifa, who was installed at 8-1 among the 39 individual entries. Like the KFDW, the mutuel field option (#40) is also available. Tarifa, the Rachel Alexandra (G2) winner, is expected to race next in the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) on March 23. There are no Road to the Kentucky Oaks series preps this weekend.

There are no refunds in the Kentucky Derby or Oaks Future Wagers. Should Churchill Downs officials determine that one of the wagering interests has experienced an injury, illness or other circumstance that would prevent the horse from participating in the Kentucky Derby or Oaks, betting on the individual horse will be suspended immediately.

The sixth and final KDFW of the year will occur April 4-6.
