SOUTHLAND recap - Round 2 of the Southland Derby is in the books

Round 2 of the 2016 SOUTHLAND DERBY highlighted the program for Thursday evening and while the favorites won some races, we did see several greyhounds that were able to pull off a few upsets. Of the 18 races on tap, 11 of them were stakes races and fans found the action to be entertaining and exciting as the talented runners went paw to paw in terrific battles between some of the best greyhounds running anywhere in the country. This stakes competition kicked off on Saturday, June 11 with 88 greyhound entries vying for the SOUTHLAND DERBY title this season and while the field will be cut going into Round 3, the challenge for these hard running greyhounds is sure to be tougher. After 2 extremely competitive rounds and a few surprises it still looks to be a wide open event to determine the champion. This is the next to last stakes championship for the 2016 season at Southland with only the FESTIVAL OF STAKES championship left on the racing schedule at this track. I have listed my 8 selections to make the finals along with my pick to win it all as well as a longshot pick and you can see them below.
