Spot Plays for Keeneland’s Sunday turf stakes

A pair of graded stakes on the lawn highlights the closing day action of the brief, but sensational, Keeneland summer meeting.

Elkhorn (G2)

The finale is a turf marathon at 1 1/2 miles with 13 in the cast. #7 He’s No Lemon (8-1) made a fine late run behind a dawdling pace to be a sharp third in the Louisville (G3) at Churchill Downs in his 2020 debut. Lemon Drop Kid gelding should be stronger second time back under Bejarano, and he figures to receive a bit more pace to rally into late as well.

Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1) hero #5 Zulu Alpha (8-5) has been on point in each of his trio of 2020 assignments for Mike Maker. Fantastic Street Cry 7-year-old was a close third in the race last season and is a must-use in most wagers. #3 Ramsey Solution (20-1) lacks the class and experience of most in the cast, but he is a bit interesting as controlling speed at a big price for Ward.

Transylvania (G3)

A field of 11 sophomores will travel 1 1/16 miles in the turf endeavor in what appears to be a mostly wide-open event. Christophe Clement’s #3 City Man (15-1) has a lot of appeal to me at a healthy price. Dark bay son of Mucho Macho Man showed a nice turn of foot over yielding ground in the Central Park S. in his only turf endeavor to date. And the Empire State-bred has a lot of room for improvement second time off the bench following a solid prep run on the main oval at Belmont. Regular pilot Rosario stays.

#5 Vintage Print (4-1) is unbeaten on the green for Chad Brown. $1.8 million Curlin colt has run down a clear leader in two straight, and he seems likely for a top-three finish while making his stakes debut.
