Spot Plays for Saturday stakes at Woodbine

July 16th, 2020

A pair of graded stakes races will highlight a fine 10-race card at Woodbine on Saturday.

Royal North (G2)

Really good field of nine fillies and mares will compete in the 6-furlong turf affair. The pace is expected to be swift from the opening bell which could set things up for a contender coming from off the pace.

Barbara Minshall’s #4 Another Time (5-2) exits a neck second in the Nassau (G2) going a mile on the grass. The talented Munnings filly cuts back to a sprint in this spot, and I think that she will get a perfect trip under Jerome Lermyte.

#5 Sister Peacock (7-2) was a winner off the shelf in her 2020 debut and is a must use in the field for Simon. Bay is a stakes winner on the surface and she will improve second time back. #8 Lady Grace (6-1) comes off a facile allowance win at Woodbine for Casse. Capable 4-year-old has the right running style to be a threat inside the final furlong.

Wager:

  • $20 Win: #4 Another Time ($20)
  • $4 Exacta Key Box: 4 with 5,8 ($16)

Trillium (G3)

An octet of sophomore fillies will square off in the 1 1/16 miles main-track endeavor. #1 Souper Escape (10-1) was a fine winner in her lone local outing for Trombetta. Medaglia d’Oro 4-year-old has speed in a field lacking a lot of early pace, and she will take advantage of her advantageous rail slot on Saturday. Luis Contreras will guide the potential wire-to-wire player.

#2 Amalfi Coast (8-1) concluded her juvenile campaign with a trio of stakes tallies in succession, capped by a Grade 2 romp going seven furlongs. Kevin Attard pupil has not been as sharp from a pair of grassy performances this season, but she will relish the surface change and could peak third time off the shelf with Stein in the controls.

Wager:

  • $10 Win and Place: #1 Souper Escape ($20)
  • $1 Trifecta: 1,2 with 1,2 with all ($12)
