Zia Park: Spot plays for stakes-laden card Nov. 23

A whopping seven stakes races will be contested at Zia Park on Tuesday. A few of the black-type events feature heavy favorites that look especially tough to knock off, but I have found some value runners in the other big races that are worth playing.

Race 4 - Zia Park Juvenile S.

Six-furlong dash attracted a field of seven in what could be a good betting sprint. #1 Feel the Fear (4-1) stumbled at the break and dueled on the front end before tiring at Remington Park last time out, but I expect a big turnaround from the son of Honor Code in this heat. The $52,000 yearling purchase had won his first two races, topped by an easy stakes win at Prairie Meadows two back, and the bay is controlling speed in this tilt, too. Lane Luzzi rides and could take this one wire-to-wire.

Race 7 - Zia Park Princess S.

Juvenile fillies will go six panels in this well-matched field. Fine debut winner #5 Tolonda (8-5) is the one to beat, but I will side with #6 Tyler’s Dream (6-1) for stakes glory in this endeavor. Bay daughter of Carpe Diem displayed good ability from a pair of races at Lone Star to date and is training well in advance of her black-type debut. Greg Green pupil boasts the top Brisnet Speed figures in the cast and gets a fine draw directly outside of the morning-line choice, as well. Valdez-Jimenez retains the mount for a hot barn.

Race 9 - Zia Park Championship H.

#2 Mine That Star (5-1), a half-brother to 2009 Kentucky Derby (G1) hero Mine That Bird, stretches out for the initial time on Tuesday and should thrive with the added ground for Nancy Summers. The bay colt is 3-for-3 this campaign, and while I am not sure who he has been beating, I do love his continual improvement. Pioneerof the Nile four-year-old will receive an advantageous trip while close up and saving ground throughout with Amparan in the silks.

Race 10 - Zia Park Oaks

The 1 1/16-mile affair to close out the card attracted a pair of imposing shippers, but I will side with a local contender to pull off the upset. The Todd Fincher-trained #3 Slammed (4-1) has been quite dominant during her recent five-race win streak, which includes a stroll over the course most recently. The bay daughter of Marking obviously faces the best field of her lifetime in this endeavor, but I think that she will be up to the task from just off a fast early tempo. Regular pilot Tracy Hebert will be in the silks.
