Spot Plays for Wednesday night card at Woodbine

August 14th, 2018

Modest fare awaits those tackling Wednesday evening's program at Woodbine, but the eight-race card is not without potential spot plays and the weather forecast looks ideal for those wanting to spend a nice summer evening on track in suburban Toronto.

Here are several horses I'll be looking at.

Race 1

Blinkers didn't seem to help #4 BOBBY'S ESCAPE (10-1) all that much when added last time. Although he's struggled in both starts this season, hard not to look back to his first two starts last fall and see a horse that fits relatively well here. Has the third-start-off-the-layoff angle working for him, presumably firmer ground, a better draw, and extra distance here.

Race 3

Old-timer #10 RUN TO THE BANK (6-1) still in search of his first win on the local sod, but did make a serious threat against a repeat winner earlier in the meet. A good fourth against slightly tougher in a key race two back, last time his bid was compromised by a lack of running room in the final furlong.

Race 4

#8 BID'S KID (8-1) showed completely nothing when trailing nine rivals last out, but two of her first three runs this meet were fairly strong. General form points her out as a logical threat if she bounces back to her best here.

Race 5

#1 HOLIDEJAVU (5-1) had a good run July 22 in her first race back in nearly 18 months. Inside draw, early speed, and shortening up a furlong figure to help.

Race 8

#3 COURTLY DIVA (8-1) showed good speed in her debut on the turf, but retreated badly late after being squeezed back in the stretch. Should show natural progression second out, halves in price, and switches to Polytrack.
