Stakes Spot Plays for March 14

March 13th, 2020

Thoroughbred racing in the U.S. will be largely conducted before empty houses Saturday, but the show will go on and there's no easier way to follow and bet the action than at TwinSpires.com.

Here are thoughts on some of the stakes on Saturday's schedule:

Red Camelia S. -- Fair Grounds Race 7 (4:24 p.m. EDT)

#12 BERMUDA STAR (6-1) enters this grass test for Louisiana-bred fillies and mares in the the third start of her form cycle having faced several of these in a pair of runs last month following a six-month spell. Possesses plenty of back class for this level and her best is more than good enough to take this about 1-mile heat under Adam Beschizza.

Azeri (G3) -- Oaklawn Park Race 9 (5:50 p.m. EDT)

#1 STREET BAND (3-1) was a narrowly beaten third versus several of these in the Jan. 26 Houston Ladies Classic (G3) and looms the value play in this rematch of the top four finishers. Explosive winner of the Cotillion (G1) in September, she enters off a string of quick 5-furlong moves over the track for trainer Larry Jones, who's enjoyed a quiet but successful meet so far.

Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3) -- Turfway Park Race 11 (6:42 p.m. EDT)

Grass runners as a general rule tend to handle the switch to a synthetic surface all right, one reason why #5 MYAMANOI (4-1) looks fairly appealing in this spot. Fifth to eventual Breeders' Cup winner Structor in his debut, he bounced back with an authoritative maiden win at Aqueduct and was most recently closing fastest in the shorter Dania Beach S. Among half the field that is actually Triple Crown nominated, he should appreciate the step up to nine furlongs and will be making his presence felt late.
