Indiana Grand has an outstanding nine-race card scheduled for Wednesday afternoon featuring four stakes races. The 12th running of the $200,000 Centaur and the 9th running of the $200,000 Indiana Grand headline the weekday slate. Both races are run at one mile over the turf.
Here are a couple spot plays I have lined up for the day.
Most likely winner:
The Wednesday afternoon action commences with a $12,500 conditioned claiming event run at six furlongs over the main track.
#4 You See It is a horse that I think stands out in this bunch. The four-year-old gelding faces a group largely comprised of horses that have only won once. However, he has hit the wire first five times, including three of his last five for trainer Michael Nance.
The son of Five Star days exits the state-bred claiming ranks for the initial time, which is always slightly concerning, but he has tactical speed to clear if the race is slow early or stalk just off the pace if need be. All of his success has come over this racetrack and he takes on a sub-par bunch of rivals to start the day.
I love his chances to get to the wire first at a relatively short price. If he is 2-1 or higher he is worth a win wager and I will play him in a Daily Double with #1 Munchies in the second.
A maiden play:
#5 Sky Writer has struggled to get out of the gate in both of his career starts for trainer Robert Gorham, but in his last race he really showed some talent when making up significant ground on the backstretch and running on well to finish a decent third.
If the son of Sky Mesa can get out of the gate in good order on Wednesday under jockey Eduardo Perez, I expect him to turn the tables on 5-2-morning line favorite #10 Irish Stout and find the winner's circle for the initial time.
At anything near 4-1 I will gamble that he does break cleanly and out finishes a group largely comprised of first-time starters with modest pedigrees for barns that do not click often with debut runners.
Good luck at the windows!
