Sunday's notable 2-year-old maidens: 6th at Saratoga

Saratoga's 6TH race, 1 1/16 miles on inner turf for fillies (3:47 p.m. EDT)

Crystal Wave has the most eye-catching pedigree as a three-quarter sister to Grade 1 star Laragh, who placed third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. The $535,000 Keeneland September yearling is by Tapit and out of a half-sister to Grade 2-winning turf millionaire Summer Front. Sight unseen, I'd expect her to be Todd Pletcher's first string.

Love the Kitten, second in her first two tries on dirt and Polytrack, gave way badly in the Chesham at Royal Ascot. This should be a better spot for the Ramsey homebred, who is of course by Kitten's Joy. The Wesley Ward juvenile is a full sister to Luck of the Kitten, last year's Zuma Beach hero and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) runner-up. She is coupled with the also-eligible Devilish Kitten. Also by Kitten's Joy, Devilish Kitten is out of a Devil His Due half-sister to Port Bayou and Talent Search. She has placed in a pair of turf sprint maidens and ought to improve around two turns.

Debutante Sage Hall is a turf natural on pedigree. From the first crop of Irish/American champion Cape Blanco, she is out of stakes winner Cayuga's Waters, who is responsible for three stakes performers -- Glorious View, winner of the Vagrancy (G2) on dirt, and the turf-oriented pair of Cascadilla Falls (successful in the Spa's Lucy Scribner) and multiple Grade 3-placed Highball. Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott and jockey Jose Lezcano just connected with first-timer Site Read ($44.20) in Saturday's 3RD race, the companion 1 1/16-mile turf maiden.

Mott unveils an even more fashionably bred prospect in Rebelle, a $370,000 Keeneland September purchase by Hard Spun. Her dam, the Tale of the Cat mare Layreebelle, has produced a pair of graded winners already in Spellbound and Kid Cruz. Rebelle is bred on a similar cross to Saturday's Diana (G1) winner Hard Not to Like: both are by Hard Spun and out of Storm Cat-line mares.

Bottle Dance, another Cape Blanco, is out of a half-sister to Canadian champion Hollinger from a grassy family. Trained by Rudy Rodriguez for Michael Dubb and Bethlehem Stables (who suffered a brutal loss with the disqualification of Magna Light in Saturday's Sanford [G3]), she was third in the same turf sprint that yielded Friday maiden winner Just Wicked. The added ground should help.

Miracle Girl, a $220,000 OBS March juvenile, sports a nifty inbreeding to full sisters Yarn and Preach -- the Rasmussen Factor. That comes as a result of being by Scat Daddy and out of a turf stakes-placed Pulpit mare. The Kathy Ritvo trainee was a slow starting-fourth to Positively Royal in her premiere over five furlongs on the Belmont dirt. Along with tackling a route on turf, she adds blinkers and Lasix too.

Lotta Lolly is a full sister to Grade 1-winning juvenile Square Eddie. Fourth on debut sprinting at Churchill, the Al Stall Jr. filly is eligible to improve stretching out to two turns on turf. The daughter of Smart Strike also adds blinkers, making for a trifecta of variables second time out.

Pletcher also has Deedeezee, a three-quarter sister to Wickedly Perfect, the 2010 Alcibiades (G1) and Sorrento (G3) winner on synthetic. Both are by Congrats, while Deedeezee is the first registered foal from Indiana Oaks (G2) runner-up Ash Zee. Broodmare sire Exchange Rate offers a bit more specifically turf appeal to the $250,000 Saratoga yearling.

The Ken McPeek-trained Amazing Charisma is by Street Sense, who is capable of siring good turf runners, and out of a Dynaformer half-sister to Grade 3 winner Desert Air. Stablemate Hollywood Tomcat has a strong turf influences close up, being by Temple City and out of a Giant's Causeway mare. But the female line isn't terribly noteworthy, and her dam has been exported to the Dominican Republic.

The main-track-only Lovely Credit is by Blame and out of Grade 2 victress Lovely Rafaela, herself a daughter of A.P. Indy and Argentine champion Campagnarde. More ground, plus first-time Lasix, figures to conjure up a better effort.
