Switch back to slop fits Tap Daddy in Murphy

Tap Daddy was entered for turf today but appears poised to benefit as the James W. Murphy has been moved to the sloppy Pimlico main track and will be contested at 1 1/16 miles.

TwinSpires.com will be offering a series of flash bonuses to players today beginning at 12:45 p.m. (ET), six minutes prior to the scheduled post time for the James W. Murphy (5th race). Watch the offers page on TwinSpires.com for your chance to score Bonus cash on the Pimlico card -- when the cap is hit they’re gone.

Tap Daddy broke his maiden and captured an allowance on turf last season and the 3-year-old exits a pair of turf attempts at Fair Grounds and Keeneland. But the best performance of his career came on a sloppy track in the off-the-turf Bourbon Stakes (G3) last October when the dark bay colt missed by only a head in third to a pair of classy rivals.

By Scat Daddy, sire of Kentucky Derby winner and Preakness favorite Justify, Tap Daddy gained valuable fitness in the last two starts and shows a sharp 5-furlong drill in preparation for Steve Asmussen. Ricardo Santana Jr. is riding well, winning a pair of stakes yesterday over the sloppy Pimlico track including the Skipat aboard the Asmusssen-trained Vertical Oak, and he should be forwardly placed aboard Tap Daddy in a race with little pace.

I expect to see Tap Daddy earn his first stakes tally.
