Tampa Bay Downs: Betting the $1,195 Super High 5 carryover

The Sunday card at Tampa Bay Downs kicks off on a high note with a $1,195 Super High 5 carryover up for grabs in Race 1, a $16,000 maiden claimer for fillies and mares sprinting seven furlongs on dirt.

The morning line favorite is #1 Miss Unconcerned (5-2), and she’s certainly worthy of respect. The four-year-old filly crossed the finish line first in a $10,000 maiden claimer sprinting seven furlongs on Dec. 9 at Tampa, only to be disqualified to second place for causing interference. She subsequently stepped up in class for a $16,000 maiden claimer dashing six furlongs at Tampa and ran second with a respectable 70 Brisnet Speed rating.

However, Miss Unconcerned has lost ground from the eighth pole to the finish line in six of her seven starts, so stretching back out to seven furlongs while sticking to the $16,000 maiden claiming level could leave her vulnerable to an upset.

Perhaps #5 Tabor Time (7-2) can steal the show. The Kathleen Demasi trainee has spent all three of her starts sprinting against maiden special weight competition. She finished eighth and fifth in her first two starts on dirt at Churchill Downs before switching to turf and finishing sixth at Gulfstream Park.

These efforts yielded decent Brisnet Speed ratings of 67, 60, and 76, suggesting Tabor Time has the talent to factor while dropping into a $16,000 maiden claimer. It’s also important to note she’s adding blinkers for Sunday’s contest, which is a 34% winning move for Demasi.

#7 One Violent Affair (3-1) is another logical contender. Her recent form isn’t stellar, but she’s been competing against tougher competition. Last year at Tampa Bay Downs, One Violent Affair ran fourth in a pair of six-furlong maiden special weights while earning Brisnet Speed ratings of 76 and 82, so it’s possible returning to Tampa and dropping into a $16,000 maiden claimer can place her in win contention for hot trainer Kathleen O’Connell.

If we key Tabor Time on top and emphasize Miss Unconcerned and One Violent Affair underneath, we should have a good chance to solve the Super High 5:
