Tampa Bay Downs: Horse racing pick of the day for Dec. 24

December 24th, 2020

Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing for Thursday, Dec. 24.

Tampa Bay Downs, Race 6: Maiden special weight (1 mile and 40 yards, 2:45 p.m. ET)

Among the experienced runners in this maiden special weight for 2-year-old fillies, #6 Diamond Ore (9-5 on the morning line) is an obvious standout. Whereas none of her rivals have reached the 70 Brisnet Speed rating plateau, Diamond Ore has exceeded that mark twice.

In her most recent run, Diamond Ore rallied to finish second in a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight over the Tapeta track at Woodbine, where she was beaten just a half-length. The 82 Brisnet Speed rating she posted not only tops Thursday’s field, but it exceeds the 80 Brisnet Speed rating mark that stands as par for Thursday’s class level and distance.

Produced by the Distorted Humor mare Bubbler, Diamond Ore is a half-sister to the sensational four-time Grade 1 winner Arrogate, so she is likely to improve on the transition from Tapeta to dirt.

Hot jockey Samy Camacho has the mount, so let’s key Diamond Ore on top in a trifecta.

$2.50 trifecta: 6 with 1,2,3,5 with 1,2,3,5 ($30)

Good luck!
