The Demoiselle Stakes Tip Sheet

December 6th, 2019

The $250,000 Demoiselle (G2), a 2020 Road to the Kentucky Oaks prep, will be run at 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Aqueduct on Saturday for juvenile fillies. The field will have a short run into the clubhouse turn, so some will be compromised. Outside posts are at a severe disadvantage.

Demoiselle Stakes Contenders

#1 Fiftyshays Ofgreen took four tries to break her maiden, which she did going two turns for the first time on the dirt last out at Monmouth Park. By Bernardini out of a dam by Touch Gold, she is bred for the extra distance on the dirt and should appreciate a ground-saving trip with Johnny Velazquez.

#2 Maedean raced evenly in her well-bet career debut going a one-turn mile at Belmont Park then came back to win going away in a wide trip behind a fast pace. Mark Hennig moved her up in class last out and she won the Tempted Stakes by over five lengths. It is hard to gauge who she beat that day but the daughter of Tapit, who loved going nine furlongs at Aqueduct, should get a stalking trip with Luis Saez.

#3 Glass Ceiling did nothing in her career debut going seven furlongs at Keeneland then came back and won going away there at six furlongs against maiden $40,000 claimers. Danny Gargan claimed her that day and moves her up in class much like he did with Tax last year who was third in the Remsen (G2) and then won the Withers (G3). Her sire Constitution continues to roll along with a sensational first crop of dirt runners.

#4 Miss Marissa woke up a bit when blinkers were added at Saratoga then she came back and went gate to wire against open company maidens. She tired after contesting a fast pace in the Frizette (G1) but her speed should be a big help against a bulky field.

#5 Alandra looked great when she broke her maiden first time out going seven furlongs at Saratoga in fast time. It was impressive enough for Shug McGaughey to the Alcibiades (G1) next out but she lost all chance that day after a rough start. Still, she rallied for third behind the winner that came back to win the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). Daughter of Blame has trained well since then and she should get an aggressive ride from Joel Rosario.

#6 Critical Value ran well in two maiden sprints against New York-breds then moved up in class and won a restricted $250,000 stakes race. Daughter of Bodemeister shows up off three straight bullet workouts and gets a rider switch to Irad Ortiz Jr.

#7 Jara was an even third in her career debut going six furlongs at Laurel then stretched out to a mile last out there and was put up after being bumped in the stretch. She doesn't look fast enough but she is by Constitution. John Servis wins 26% first start after a maiden win.

#8 I Dare U raced in Thursday's Tepin Stakes and is a likely scratch.

#9 Blame Debbie was a good second in her well-bet career debut going 5 1/2 furlongs at Delaware Park then she shipped to Keeneland and went gate-to-wire in her two-turn debut. She switches barns to Graham Motion but Javier Castellano is going to have to use her going into the first turn.

#10 Daphne Moon came from off the pace to win going away at seven furlongs in fast time at Saratoga in her well-bet career debut. She raced evenly in the Frizette after breaking awkwardly but will have to drop back to save ground giving her a lot to do.

#11 Water White woke up second time out with a good second going a one-turn mile behind a subsequent stakes winner. She broke her maiden last out when blinkers were added for the first time but they come off today in her two-turn debut. Her mid-pack running style will not be helped by her post and could be hung out wide early.

#12 Lake Avenue just missed in her career debut going six furlongs in fast time then came back at seven furlongs as the 2-5 favorite and won by 12 lengths. The daughter of Tapit did show good speed that day but the post will still be hard to overcome.
