The Hambletonian Trail: Trotting Fillies Called To Post in New York Sires Stakes At Yonkers

 

Tuesday, May 8, brings to Yonkers a crew of soph-filly trotters on their early hike to the “Oaks” and/or a battle with the boys in August. These eligible fillies will race for some hefty purses in divisions of the New York Sires Stakes (NYSS).

Four splits, each worth $42,975, are at play. As usual, we emphasize the contenders whose connections are motivated by their investments in the big dance, so eligible entries will always be in our sites for the best bets.

Four fillies begin their 2018 campaign in the first NYSS division. One of them is Plunge Blue Chip, an Ake Svanstedt-trained product that is a morning line (ML) choice and one of the two eligible here. The other eligible is Tribute To Seven, who has already won her first race at three. She will be our choice to certainly contribute to some exotics.

In the second NYSS round, four of the seven are Oaks-eligible, one of which we endorse—Perfect Summer K. Although the favorite will surely be Alloveragain from the rail and also an eligible, we back the better price. Also on the “Trail” are Fury Road and Lima Novelty, both racing at three for the first time.

Third on the NYSS-Trail bill is a seven-filly field, this one with a few more experienced sophs. The ML choice is eligible Jordan Blue Chip, from the strong Paula Wellwood school. We support the other eligible, Ciao Dolce, who launches the 2018 season here. Ciao Dolce is bred for trotting the Trail to strike in August and should make a great showing of her talent. This blueblood could be Svanstedt’s prime candidate for the crown.

The nightcap is also seven strong, with just a pair eligible—Caviart Cady and Mooshika Stride. The latter is our choice. There is danger among the others, including Trond Smedshammer’s Dew To Win. Although Trond does not have her staked for the August events, she could show some strong contention against those she will meet who dream of Hambo glory.
