Thoughts on the $88,282 Pick 6 carryover at Aqueduct

A two-day Pick 6 carryover of $88,282 at Aqueduct on Wednesday ensures there won't be much of a lull between the action-heavy Thanksgiving weekend and Saturday's stakes-laden card at the Big A and the opening of Gulfstream's winter meet. Here are thoughts on this afternoon's sequence.

Race 4

#6 TIZZELLE (8-5), second to the graded-quality Fourstar Crook in the $125,000 John Hettinger, appears the class of this field, but #1 DRIVEN BY SPEED (5-1) is a possible threat to lead gate-to-wire from the rail post while #10 BROKEN BORDER (5-1) has won at this level twice since June.

Race 5

Concerns that morning line favorite #3 Tiz Super (2-1) might not see out the mile lead us to look hard at #5 CURIOUSNCURIOUSER (7-2) and #8 MO PROMISE (10-1). The former hails from a barn not overly successful with long-layoff types, but does pick up Jose Ortiz. Mo Promise, meanwhile, has generally demonstrated not to be much of a turf performer. Drops to lowest level and fast dirt might be what she's looking for. #2 VERY FASHIONABLE (6-1) has been on the sidelines for much of the season. Above average 5f work on November 9 a sign of better things to come?

Race 6

#6 NOUVELLE VAGUE (8-1) found herself in the the unusual position of being on the lead last time at Laurel in her debut for Rice. Can be more effective tracking and making a late run, and has displayed an affinity for this course in the past. Same story with stablemate #8 TISBURY (5-1), who wheels back on 11 days rest after dead-heating for the win against non-winners of two.

Race 7

#7 GIFT BOX (2-1) no slam dunk here as the beaten favorite in his last three, but likely needed return run at Saratoga and was pinched back early last out. Efforts against some of the better three-year-olds of 2016 point him out as the one to beat from a class-perspective.

Race 8

#1 GOLD FOR THE KING (5-2) was impressive taking a similar race here last April, and latest seemingly a tune-up following a three-month spell. #7 LOKI'S VENGEANCE (3-1) has been working fast for his first start since May and won this race for fun a year ago off a 4 1/2-month break.

Race 9

#2 ANDRETTA (5-1) and #3 LULU'S POM POM (5-2) obvious threats with their "A" game, but #5 TIZZA TEMPER (6-1) could move forward second off the layoff and #4 SNOWBER (15-1) could be a sneaky first-timer for the potent trainer/jockey combo of Schettino/Carmouche.
