#5 TUSCAN GOLD: Bay son of Medaglia d’Oro was a sharp third in the Louisiana Derby (G2) in his stakes debut and rates an obvious chance with Flavien Prat coming in to ride. The Kentucky-bred is another with escalating Speed figures, and he shows five very good half-mile morning drills in preparation for this one, as well. The $600,000 yearling purchase will stalk the pace from the break. 

#6 ANTIQUARIAN: Preservationist colt ran an even sixth in the Louisiana Derby (G2) in his last performance and will challenge for the win with improvement in his second stakes attempt. The Centennial Farms’ color bearer draws outside of the pace in the contest and will have clear sailing throughout under regular pilot John Velazquez. 

#7 DETERMINISTIC: Christophe Clement trainee failed to fire when well backed in the Wood Memorial (G2) last time out, but I feel compelled to give the son of Liam’s Map another chance on this occasion. The Gotham (G3) winner was super impressive in his first pair of assignments, and something resembling either of those will find him right there inside the final furlong. Joel Rosario coming in to ride is a positive sign, too. 

#8 NATIVE LAND: Riley Mott pupil turned heads with a huge maiden win at Oaklawn two back, and he followed that up with a game allowance tally on the same oval. The rising Mastery colt lands in a tough spot while being drawn widest of all, but the sophomore is in great form and can’t be ignored with Junior Alvarado in the stirrups.
