Remsen Stakes Contenders
#1 MO DONEGAL impressed with a strong maiden conquer going 1 1/16 miles at Belmont Park second time out. The Todd Pletcher pupil gets a good draw inside to save ground, and the son of Uncle Mo gives the impression he will appreciate the distance. Irad Ortiz will be in the silks.
#2 WHO HOO THATS ME finished a creditable third in the Sleepy Hollow S. last time out in his first voyage beyond 6 1/2 furlongs. The Jorge Abreu trainee is bred to run long, and his style should fit the race perfectly. Trevor McCarthy will be in the stirrups on the obvious top-three contender.
#3 JUDGE DAVIS has flashed ability in each of his trio of races to this point for Shug McGaughey. The $280,000 son of Distorted Humor will wear blinkers for the first time in this spot, and he could be forwardly placed early with regular pilot Jose Ortiz up.
#4 FROMANOTHAMUTHA enters as a maiden who is on the improve for trainer Ray Handal. The dark bay son of Unified has been runner-up in two straight to a pair of major players in the field, and any kind of forward move will give the $120,00 purchase a chance late beneath Manny Franco.
#5 MIDNIGHT CHROME moves from the turf to the dirt and will need a lifetime best effort to make an impact in this field. The son of California Chrome is hard to endorse on this occasion.
#6 ELOQUIST took a massive leap forward when graduating at Parx most recently. The bay son of Nyquist faces a stiff task in this contest, however, and he would be a surprise to me at this stage of his development.
#7 ZANDON overcame a poor break and poor voyage to graduate on debut for conditioner Chad Brown, and I think that he has the highest ceiling of any contender in the field going forward. The son of Upstart shows four good morning moves in advance of his stakes bow, and the colt also retains the services of Joel Rosario. The Kentucky-bred will be forwardly placed early on.
#8 MR JEFFERSON draws widest in the field for trainer Mike Trombetta. The Maryland-bred is two-for-two on dirt and rallied to take a route allowance last time out in his first race with blinkers. The chestnut has to run his best to challenge in the final furlong on Saturday, however.
