Track Update: Aqueduct and Thanksgiving weekend
It's Thanksgiving weekend, and that means it is coming time for one of the biggest weekends at Aqueduct all year. Get ready for a long, profitable holiday of racing at the Big A by getting to know the meet’s early trends!
Aqueduct Jockeys
Irad Ortiz leads the riding standings with 15 wins so far (15-for-51, 29%, +6% ROI), six clear of Jose Lezcano (9-for-49, 18%, +44% ROI). Lezcano is two clear of Dylan Davis (7-for-60, 12%, -17% ROI) and Manny Franco (7-for-51, 14%, -5% ROI).
On dirt, Franco has been winning at a price. His five main-track wins (5-for-23, 22%) put him behind only Irad Ortiz, and his +53% ROI on dirt leads all riders with 10 or more rides on the course this meet.
On grass, Jose Lezcano (7-for-32, 22%, +69% ROI) and Irad Ortiz (7-for-29, 24%, +17%) lead the colony. Looking closer at Lezcano's record, all seven of his turf wins have come at two turns (7-for-23, 30%, +136% ROI), making that where to lean on him more strongly.
Aqueduct Trainers
Entering Thanksgiving week Chad Brown leads the overall training standings with nine wins (9-for-27, 33%, +5% ROI). That puts him three clear of both Mike Maker (6-for-18, 33%, +184% ROI) and Todd Pletcher (6-for-24, 25%, -25% ROI).
If Rob Atras runs a horse on the dirt, take a long look. He has four dirt wins (4-for-6, 67%, 69%), one clear of Brown (3-for-6, 50%, +28% ROI) and Pletcher (3-for-12, 25%, -24% ROI). Furthermore, all six of Atras' dirt horses so far have finished in the money. Four of those six runners have come first off the claim; two have won, and two have run third.
On the lawn Brown has a slim lead with six wins (6-for-21, 29%, -1% ROI) to Mike Maker's five (5-for-17, 29%, +122% ROI). Brown has only run routes so far; 14 of Maker's 17 starts have come at two turns, and all five of his turf wins have.
