About Golden Gate Fields Horse Racing

After a short 1941 meet that was interrupted by World War II, Golden Gate Fields reopened in 1947 and since has produced many of horse racings’ greatest thrills. With a beautiful view of the Bay Area, Golden Gate Fields guests are treated to panoramic views of landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz Island. Trainers such as Charlie Whittingham, Lucien Laurin, Lazaro S. Barrera, Bobby Frankel, D. Wayne Lukas, Neil Drysdale, Richard Mandella, Ron McAnally, and Jack Van Berg have saddled winners at Golden Gate Fields.




Golden Gate Fields Race Track Info

The race track at Golden Gate Fields is truly world-class. Features include:
  • Tapeta racing surface
  • Main race track: 1 mile oval; 78 ft. wide in the stretch, 75 ft. wide backstretch, 1,000 ft. from the last turn to the finish, and 383 ft. from the first line to the first turn
  • Lakeside Turf Course: Nine-tenths mile oval; three-sixteenths mile chute with a max width of 75 ft. and min. width of 50 ft. and a movable rail
