Suffice it to say, handicapping these trials is difficult as the majority of these juveniles have never competed on the
racetrack yet. However, a select few showed promise in their schooling races earlier this month. These include Jrs Natural Runaway (race 2); Sheza Diamond Diva (race 6) and Dashing Red Lexus (race 7).
Last year’s Mardi Gras Futurity winner was RDD Lajollanfastdash, who showed his potential in schooling races, winning his heat by over three lengths. The speedy gray son of top Louisiana stallion Heza Fast Dash was purchased at the LQHBA Yearling Sale. He won his trial and did not disappoint in the final three weeks later. RDD Lajollanfastdash ended up winning six of his eight starts in 2016, and topping the $400,000 mark in earnings.
There will be a special early post time is 11:30 am (Central) Saturday, February 25 for the 15-race card. The first race is the running of the $25,000 Mr Jess Perry Stakes, followed by 14 trials. The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $271,738 Mardi Gras Futurity final on Saturday, March 18.
A fast track is predicted for Saturday’s races. For further information on the racing and upcoming events at Louisiana Downs, visit www.caesars.com/harrahs-louisiana-downs.
