Tuesday’s Best Bets and Quick Picks: 8-1 shot in Welder S.
Handicapper J. Keeler Johnson shares best bets and quick picks for Tuesday, March 19 at Will Rogers Downs and Turf Paradise, including an 8-1 shot in the Welder S.
Best Bets and Quick Picks
Will Rogers Downs: Race 7: Welder S. (six furlongs, 4:57 p.m. ET)
Morning line favorite #5 Lake Bee (5-2) has earned strong Brisnet Speed ratings of 81, 93, and 85 in his last three starts against non-state-restricted competition. But last fall, he lost a five-furlong maiden special weight for Oklahoma-breds by 3 1/2 lengths to #8 Legacy Account (8-1).
Legacy Account followed up that decisive maiden victory with a gate-to-wire 4 1/2-length romp in a 5 1/2-furlong allowance for Oklahoma-breds at Remington. Legacy Account hasn’t run as fast as Lake Bee on the Brisnet Speed rating scale, but he’s been freshened since November and is eligible to improve in his three-year-old debut.
At 8-1, Legacy Account is worth betting to win and keying over Lake Bee in the exacta.
Selections
- #8 Legacy Account (8-1)
- #5 Lake Bee (5-2)
- #6 Okie Smoke (9-2)
Wagers
- $20 to win on #8 Legacy Account
- $5 Exacta: 8 with 5
Total: $25
Will Rogers Downs: Race 8: Maiden Special Weight (5 1/2 furlongs, 5:24 p.m. ET)
#6 Straight Ahead (3-1) ran well when debuting in a six-furlong sprint over this track and class level on March 5. In a race that was dominated by speed horses for the most part, Straight Ahead overcame a slow start to rally and finish second by a nose.
.@BeemieAwards recaps the weekend of racing, including action from Santa Anita, Oaklawn, Gulfstream, and more. He also talks about the NHC competition in Las Vegas.

#6 X Ray Vision (3-1) was much the best in the six-furlong Arizona Breeders S. at Turf Paradise last month, tracking a solid pace before taking over to win by 2 1/2 lengths. In the process, he defeated several of the rivals he’ll face on Tuesday.
Trainer Kevin Eikleberry has been hot at Turf Paradise this meet, winning at a 32% rate, so we’ll count on X Ray Vision to win right back.
