Tuesday’s Best Bets and Quick Picks: Finger Lakes Pick 6 singles

July 30th, 2024

Handicapper J. Keeler Johnson shares best bets and quick picks for Tuesday, July 30 at Horseshoe Indianapolis and Assiniboia Downs, along with a pair of singles for the $2,586 Pick 6 carryover at Finger Lakes.

Best Bets and Quick Picks

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 3: $20,000 Maiden Claiming (7 1/2 furlongs on turf, 3:12 p.m. ET)

#9 Crowned With Grace (4-1) hails from the hot barn of Eddie Kenneally, a 33% winner at Horseshoe Indianapolis this meet. Since 2021, Kenneally has compiled an excellent 7-2-2-1 (29%) record debuting juveniles at Horseshoe Indianapolis, which includes a 4-1-1-0 (25%) tally with turf starters.

Crowned With Grace has put together a lengthy work tab in preparation for her debut, capped off by a quick half-mile in :48 at Churchill Downs. She’s a daughter of Liam’s Map, who sires a solid 14% winners on turf, so all signs suggest Crowned With Grace can win this $20,000 maiden claimer.

A win bet is in order.

Selections

  • #9 Crowned With Grace (4-1)
  • #3 J’s Naughty Angel (12-1)
  • #2 Pootoogook (7-2)

Wagers

  • $25 to win on #9 Crowned With Grace (4-1)

Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 5: Maiden Special Weight (7 1/2 furlongs on turf, 4:14 p.m. ET)

Trainer Paulo Lobo has gone 2-for-3 (67%) debuting juveniles at Horseshoe Indianapolis this meet, and perhaps #8 Poema (5-1) can keep that momentum going. A daughter of Kantharos (who sires 14% winners from first-time turf starters), Poema has turned in a bevy of half-mile workouts and is eligible to outrun her odds under jockey Evin Roman, a 15% winner teaming up with Lobo over the last two months.

Those 5-1 morning line odds are enticing, so let’s bet Poema to win and then play her over fellow first-time starters #6 Golden Sunshine (4-1) and #1 Swan House (6-1) in a small exacta.

Selections

  • #8 Poema (5-1)
  • #6 Golden Sunshine (4-1)
  • #1 Swan House (6-1)

Wagers

  • $22 to win on #8 Poema
  • $4 Exacta: 8 with 1,6 ($8)
    Total: $30

Assiniboia Downs: Race 4: $10,000 Claiming (six furlongs on dirt, 9:50 p.m. ET)

#6 Happy Hour (2-1) has placed in multiple stakes at Assiniboia Downs and should appreciate dropping in class for a $10,000 claimer restricted to fillies and mares who have never won three races. Happy Hour’s best Brisnet Speed ratings are sharp, and hot jockey Ronald Ali (a 22% winner at Assiniboia Downs this meet) is slated to ride, so the stage is set for Happy Hour to deliver victory.

#2 Rose of Mooncoin (5-2), recently victorious in a $12,500 claimer sprinting six furlongs at Assiniboia Downs, can complete the exacta.

Selections

  • #6 Happy Hour (2-1)
  • #2 Rose of Mooncoin (5-2)
  • #1 Highlander’s Edge (7-2)

Wagers

  • $15 to win on #6 Happy Hour
  • $10 Exacta: 6 with 2
    Total: $25

Carryover Watch

Finger Lakes: Race 3: $2,586 Pick 6 carryover (1:58 p.m. ET)

No one hit the $1 Pick 6 on Monday at Finger Lakes, so there’s a non-jackpot carryover worth $2,586 on the table for Tuesday.

After analyzing the entries for the six-race sequence, we’ve identified a pair of singles to build tickets around:

Race 3: #1 Awesome for Sure (5-2)

The opening leg of the Pick 6 is an $11,000 claimer for horses who have never won two races, and the one-mile dirt contest looks ripe for conquest by Awesome for Sure.

Awesome for Sure owns the two highest Brisnet Speed ratings in this five-horse field. He posted a 77 when overcoming a troubled start to rally and win a $20,000 maiden claimer sprinting six furlongs at Aqueduct last year, and most recently he threw down a 79 when charging to finish second by three-quarters of a length in an $8,000 claimer sprinting six furlongs at Gulfstream Park. None of his Tuesday rivals have earned a number higher than 76.

After competing at Aqueduct and Gulfstream Park, Awesome for Sure figures to find the competition easier at Finger Lakes, even while tackling an $11,000 claimer. His pedigree suggests stretching out over one mile won’t be an issue, so we’re confident Awesome for Sure will take home top honors under hot jockey Andre Worrie, a 22% winner at Finger Lakes this meet.

Race 6: #1 Sweet Anniversary (2-1)

Sweet Anniversary was terrific when debuting in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Finger Lakes earlier this month. Despite breaking a little slowly, she led by daylight at every call on her way to dominating by 15 3/4 lengths with a 93 Brisnet Speed rating.

That number towers over Race 6, a six-furlong allowance for fillies and mares who have never won two races. Seven other horses have entered, but none have earned a Brisnet Speed rating higher than 81. If Sweet Anniversary repeats her debut performance for the hot jockey/trainer duo of Keiber Coa and Anthony Ferraro (35% winners together over the last two months), she should easily bring her career tally to 2-for-2.

Good luck!
