Tuesday’s Best Bets and Quick Picks: Stakes double at Parx
Handicapper J. Keeler Johnson shares best bets and quick picks for Tuesday, March 5 at Parx Racing and Will Rogers Downs, including a cold stakes double.
Best Bets and Quick Picks
Parx Racing: Race 8: Main Line S. (one mile and 70 yards, 3:14 p.m. ET)
#8 Experimental (5-2) led all the way over an extremely slow and tiring track to win a one-mile maiden special weight at Aqueduct last month by 1 3/4 lengths, earning a sharp 84 Brisnet Speed rating. The Main Line field hasn’t come up especially deep, so Experimental has every chance to record another victory for high-percentage trainer Chad Brown.
Let’s single Experimental to start a double wager.
Selections
- #8 Experimental (5-2)
- #1 Kiss for Luck (9-2)
- #4 Phabulous Phoebe (5-1)
Wagers
- $25 Double: 8 with 4

Parx Racing: Race 9: City of Brotherly Love S. (one mile and 70 yards, 3:41 p.m. ET)
#4 Guanare (8-5) has been in red-hot form under the care of trainer Rick Dutrow. At Aqueduct, he won a $40,000 maiden claimer and a $50,000 starter optional claimer with strong Brisnet Speed ratings of 85 and 93. Then he shipped to Laurel Park and took the Spectacular Bid S. by 2 3/4 lengths with a 90 Speed rating.
Stretching out from sprints to a one-turn mile shouldn’t bother Guanare, considering how he pulled away down the homestretch of the seven-furlong Spectacular Bid. We’ll single him to conclude our double wager and throw in a win bet for good measure.
Selections
- #4 Guanare (8-5)
- #1 Just Step On It (6-1)
- #8 Capo (6-1)
Wagers
- $25 to win on #4 Guanare
Will Rogers Downs: Race 7: $5,000 Claiming (six furlongs, 4:57 p.m. ET)
#3 Sam Sez (5-1) faltered when finishing eighth in a $10,000 claimer at Remington Park last time out, but he’d previously won a pair of $5,000 claimers at Remington and Canterbury Park with sharp Brisnet Speed ratings of 81 and 75.
Sam Sez has been freshened since December and should have every chance to vie for victory while returning to the $5,000 claiming level. It helps that trainer Michael Biehler has gone 12-for-49 (24%) at Will Rogers Downs since 2022.
Let’s bet Sam Sez to win and call it a day.
Selections
- #3 Sam Sez (5-1)
- #9 Rare Stripe (3-1)
- #1 Kaely’s Brother (4-1)
Wagers
- $25 to win on #3 Sam Sez
Good luck!
