Turf maidens highlight Fair Grounds Early Pick 3 on Louisiana Derby Day

Eight stakes races highlight a fantastic 12-race card at Fair Grounds on Saturday, led by the $1 million Louisiana Derby (G2). I will aim to get off to a good start early in the afternoon when focusing on a three-race sequence for 3-year-olds starting in Race 2. Healthy prices in at least two of the legs are expected.

Fair Grounds Race 2 -- Maiden Special Weight

Sophomore fillies will run a mile on the turf to commence the play. #13 Dreamalildreamofu (3-1) is the one to beat for Brad Cox coming off a smart runner-up performance on debut. But I can’t single the filly from this post.

Josie Carroll’s #3 Sansa’s Vow (12-1), #5 Flabbergasted (6-1), #6 Fate Factor (5-1), and first-time starter #12 Sunset Stroll (10-1) will also be on the ticket.

Fair Grounds Race 3 -- Crescent City Oaks

Cajun-bred fillies will run two turns on the dirt. #8 Steph’sfullasugar (7-5) is the sophomore to beat following a pair of impressive tallies to kickstart her career. Tapiture chestnut is a must-use with Colby Hernandez on board.

Stakes heroine #6 Vacherie Girl (4-1) is a logical inclusion for Asmussen. I’ll overlook her poor showing at Delta Downs most recently.

And I will also use recent allowance vixen #4 Sebs Princess (5-1) in hopes of beating the short-priced favorite. Khozan filly ran a lifetime best on the course last time out, and a similar showing makes her dangerous from off the pace.

Fair Grounds Race 4 -- Maiden Special Weight

A mile endeavor on the green for sophomores attracted a huge field. Competitive event could go to a number of contenders in the field, and I am expecting value to conclude the wager.

Second-time starter #6 Governale (12-1) is one that I will be playing in the vertical exotics. Asmussen charge exits a live turf dash on the course, and the son of Street Boss is kin to a pair of turf winners from three siblings to run. He will improve on the stretch-out.

Debuters #10 Fortuity (10-1), #12 Reigning Spirit (12-1), and #13 Elvis’s Joy (12-1) are also of interest to me.
