Turf Spot Plays for Woodbine on Friday

Nine races are on tap at Woodbine on Friday Aug. 3, five of which will be run on the lawn with the remaining four on the Tapeta surfaces. The grassy races look most appealing to me and I will be playing each of them with a superb promotion offered.

Race 1

Starter allowance race on the lawn kicks off the card. #7 RANSACK (2-1) was a nice winner on this course two back against better and exits an allowance try. Sid Attard trainee is the class of the field and also gets clear sailing drawing outside.

Speedy sort has proven capable of passing runners in the past and will be ultra-tough in his form cycle. Luis Contreras has the assignment.

Race 3

Sylvian Pion’s #6 CLOSE IMAGE (3-1) looked sharp in a turf debut when defeating similar at 43-1 odds most recently. Badge of Silver filly ran the best race of her career in earning a lifetime-best 85 BRIS Speed number.

Dark bay lands in a field without a ton of pace to aid her rally, though she has the positional foot to stay in range to the top of the stretch under repeat rider Rafael Hernandez.

Race 5

I am sticking with the turf theme in this Woodbine maiden optional claiming run going one mile. #3 POST TO POST (3-1) is bred to run long and gets her chance for the initial time. Court Vision filly has gone evenly in a pair of turf sprints off the layoff leading up to today.

Donald McCrae pupil has four turf-winning siblings and top pilot Eurico da Silva in the saddle. In a race void of pace, I expect the three-year-old to be first or second early on.

Race 7

Mark Casse has a pair in this turf affair, and I like #3 HAVANA DREAM (6-1) in a well-matched field. Stakes-placed mare is essentially a one-run closer and she will get a healthy and contested pace to run at today.

Five-year-old didn’t look great last time but she was stuck behind a dawdling tempo. Go-to pilot Patrick Husbands being in the silks adds to her appeal. The price should be right, too.

Race 9

$10,000 claiming event on the sod closes out the card. The field has question marks all over it and looks like a good affair to take a chance on.

#2 ALLICATION (6-1) is a nice number on the morning-line and gets the play. Seven-year-old Macho Uno mare has kept modest company in 2018, but she has won two of three and also likes the course. Ontario-bred gets in light with bug rider Kimura.
