Two Mares Could Show Up in the Pegasus World Cup
All ready, 11 spots in the world's richest horse race, the Pegasus World Cup, are close to being filled. At this point, in December, all horses are listed as probable or possible. Two of the spots are likely to go to a couple of mares, Forever Unbridled and Stellar Wind.

Forever Unbridled
Forever Unbridled's win in the 2017 Breeders' Cup Distaff was as impressive as it gets. She faced some of the best fillies and mares in the world. We shouldn't look past the fact that she had to go 4-wide around the final turn and still managed to hold off a quality closer like Abel Tasman.
Does Forever Unbridled have any shot for a top 3 placing in the Pegasus World Cup? Many of us U.S. horseplayers are still hesitant to choose fillies and mares over the boys. But in Europe, fillies and mares are favorites over the boys all the time. The best mare in Europe this year was Enable. She easily beat the fellas in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, arguably the most prestigious race in Europe.
I believe depending on the pace, Forever Unbridled has a great shot to at least finish third. She could beat the fellas if she improves at all. Let's not forget that Forever Unbridled will go into the Pegasus World Cup having won 3 straight. 2 of the 3 wins were Grade 1 races.
Stellar Wind
Just like she did in 2016, Stellar Wind bounced in the Breeders' Cup Distaff. Up until then, she had won 3 Grade 1 races. I've added her sensational win the Grade 1 Apple Blossom at Oaklawn Park. Why do Stellar Wind's owners believe she's got a shot at a top 3 placing in the Pegasus World Cup?
She recently changed trainers from fantastic west coast horseman John Sadler to 2016 Eclipse winning horseman Chad Brown. Sadler's an excellent trainer. He doesn't often ship. Brown knows what it takes to win races at Gulfstream Park.
Will the trainer switch be enough for Stellar Wind to make an impact in the Pegasus World Cup? Maybe. Chad Brown wouldn't be talking about running in the Pegasus if he didn't think he had a shot.
The 2017 Pegasus World Cup didn't attract as competitive of a field that the 2018 race has already seemingly attracted. Nobody wanted to battle California Chrome and eventual winner Arrogate. The 2018 Pegasus World Cup appears to be much different. Nobody believes Gun Runner is unbeatable.
