Two singles for Aqueduct's $61,097 Pick 6 carryover

Ready to chase the $61,097 carryover up for grabs in Sunday’s Pick 6 sequence at Aqueduct? Then here are a couple of suggested singles for the $1 wager, which gets underway in Race 4 at 1:46 p.m. ET:

Race 7, Allowance: #9 War Terminator (3-1)

War Terminator hasn’t run since May, but if the lightly-raced colt brings his A-game off the layoff, he’ll be tough to deny in this six-furlong grass allowance.

A three-year-old son of War Dancer, War Terminator displayed a nice turn-of-foot over this course and distance during the spring, rallying to win his debut by 2 3/4 lengths. Among his beaten rivals was #6 King Angelo (7-2), the other key contender in Sunday’s field.

War Terminator subsequently finished second in a seven-furlong allowance at Belmont Park, beaten only a neck after racing wide. He brings sharp Brisnet Speed ratings to the equation, and trainer Jonathan Thomas wins at a 26% rate with horses returning from layoffs of 90 days or more, so War Terminator might be a viable single even against this large field.

Race 8, Winter Memories S.: #6 White Frost (4-1)

I’ll be the first to concede White Frost is something of a creative single—she isn’t even the morning-line favorite in this 1 1/16-mile turf test for sophomore fillies. But the daughter of Candy Ride has shown signs of serious talent and might be a star in the making.

White Frost is 2-for-2 since switching to turf, and she actually broke her maiden over this course and distance last fall, tracking the pace before rallying strongly to beat next-out winner Lijana by 1 1/4 lengths. Even better, White Frost herself came back to win the one-mile Sweetest Chant S. (G3) at Gulfstream Park, blazing the final quarter mile in approximately :22 2/5 to defeat future three-time Grade 3 winner Con Lima by a length.

The question mark for White Frost is the fact she’s returning from a 9 1/2-month layoff. But she’s been posting solid workouts for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott, who wins at a respectable 18% rate with horses running for the first time in 90 days or more, so there are reasons to believe White Frost can produce a peak effort off the layoff.

If she displays the same turn-of-foot on Sunday as she displayed in the Sweetest Chant, I think she’ll be tough to beat.
