Two singles for three carryovers at Arlington Park

Friday wasn’t an especially unpredictable day of racing at Arlington Park, where favorites prevailed In four of eight races. But a 14-1 longshot winner in the finale was nevertheless sufficient to trigger a trio of non-jackpot carryovers for Saturday’s card.

The prize pools up for grabs are as follows:

• An $18,082 carryover in the 20-cent Pick 8, which kicks off in Race 1 (3:25 p.m. ET).
• A $6,667 carryover in the 20-cent Pick 7, which kicks off in Race 2 (3:52 p.m. ET).
• A $10,109 carryover in the 50-cent Pick 5, which kicks off in Race 4 (4:50 p.m. ET).

All three wagers feature low 15% takeout rates, stamping them as good betting propositions. If you’re planning to play along, we’ve identified a couple of suggested singles to get you started:

Race 3 (Starter Optional Claiming): #2 P H Factor (3-5)

P H Factor has rattled off five straight victories this season, including four starts since being claimed by ultra-hot trainer Larry Rivelli, a 44% winner at Arlington this meet. P H Factor was particularly dominant over this track and class level on May 28, leading all the way to easily trounce his pursuers by 10 lengths.

Indeed, P H Factor hasn’t been headed in his last four runs, winning all by a minimum of 2 1/4 lengths. Along the way, he’s posted sharp Brisnet Speed ratings in the 80-92 range, Hot jockey Jareth Loveberrry (a 30% winner at Arlington) is named to ride, and P H Factor looms as the only clear front-runner on paper, stamping he five-year-old gelding as a clear standout.

Race 7 ($12,500 Claiming): #1 Dramatic Kitten (7-5)

Dramatic Kitten has shown dramatic improvement since transferring to trainer Fausto Gutierrez, a 20% winner this year. After breaking his maiden for a $16,000 claiming tag racing one mile at Gulfstream Park, Dramatic Kitten produced a sharp rally from behind a fast pace to comfortably win a $12,500 event over 1/16 miles.

Racing one mile over the Arlington grass course should suit Dramatic Kitten just fine. The son of perennial leading turf sire Kitten’s Joy has drawn well in post 1, setting the stage for a ground-saving trip. The competition should be a bit easier on the Illinois circuit, so we’ll count on Dramatic Kitten to get the job done at a short price.
