Two Stakes Set for Sunday at Remington Park
It has been a bustling opening weekend for the 2017 Quarter Horse racing season at Remington Park, but it’s not over yet! On Sunday afternoon the Oklahoma City racetrack will present their first two stakes of the meet, and quality fields are set for both.
A very competitive group of stakes winners is entered in the $50,000 Eastex Stakes (G3), at 350-yards, which will run as the ninth race.
Conditioner Trey Wood will saddle Bodacious Eagle, a son of top AQHA sire, One Famous Eagle. Ricky Ramirez, who rides first call for the Wood barn, will guide the graded stakes winner from the far outside post. His stiffest test will likely come from The Fiscal Cliff, who excelled as both a 2-year-old and 3-year-old. Kasey Willis trains the son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon; jockey Cesar Gomez will ride.

Fly Thru The Fire returns to action for AQHA Champion trainer Judd Kearl. The California-bred made his last start in the Grade 1 Zia Park Championship, where he finished fourth. Rodrigo Vallejo will guide the 6-year-old, who drew the far inside post.
Two horses that might not get their fair share of attention on the toteboard are 2015 Oklahoma Futurity winner Tee Chic, who breaks from the rail under rider Agustin Silva and Heritage Place Futurity champion Bv Midnite Express, who reunites with jockey Cody Smith. While both might have done their best running in their 2-year-old campaigns, they are well-bred graded stakes winners and could fire fresh in their first starts of the year.
Wrapping up the afternoon’s card is the 250-yard, $61,800 Mighty Deck Three Stakes, which also drew a solid field of ten.
Kearl and Vallejo team up with Valiant Rogue, a Grade 1-winning son of Valiant Hero who will be making his first start against older runners on Sunday. He was the fastest qualifier in last year’s $1,224,000 Rainbow Derby (G1) at Ruidoso Downs. Oklahoma-bred Sam Crow is closing in on the million dollar earnings mark for Trey Wood. Also sired by Valiant Hero, he was second in this stakes last year. Tempting Valor, a 5-year-old Tempting Dash gelding trained by Stacy Charette-Hill begins his 2017 campaign off a solid finish in the $354,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1) last October at Los Alamitos in October.
Post time for Sunday’s program is 1:30 pm (Central). For more information on their upcoming racing events and promotions, visit remingtonpark.com.
