$559,028 mandatory-payout Pick 6 leads Sunday carryovers

January 26th, 2025

Sunday is a busy day for Pick 6 carryovers. Three non-jackpot prize pools are up for grabs at Aqueduct, Fair Grounds, and Santa Anita, in addition to a $559,028 mandatory-payout Pick 6 at Gulfstream Park.

Let’s check out each of these opportunities:

Aqueduct, Race 3: $16,802 Pick 6 carryover (2:08 p.m. ET)

The final leg of Aqueduct’s $16,802 Pick 6 carryover is Race 8, a $25,000 maiden claimer for New York-bred three-year-olds racing one mile on dirt. #6 Revivalism (9-5) looks like a viable single.

Revivalism has finished second and third in his last two tries over this track and distance, both times in $40,000 maiden claimers for New York-breds. Those efforts yielded Brisnet Speed ratings of 73 and 77, the two highest numbers in Sunday’s field.

Dropping down to the $25,000 level should make Revivalism tough to beat under hot jockey Sahin Civaci.

Fair Grounds, Race 3: $1,058 Pick 6 carryover (2:45 p.m. ET)

The best chance for a single in the $1,058 Pick 6 carryover at Fair Grounds is perhaps #8 Sparkle of Hope (9-5) in Race 8, a $5,000 claimer for fillies and mares dashing six furlongs on dirt.

Sparkle of Hope has finished third and first in her last two starts sprinting against $16,000 claiming competition at Churchill Downs, earning Brisnet Speed ratings of 74 and 73 right around the par winning number (75) for Sunday’s conditions. Dropping down to the $5,000 level should allow Sparkle of Hope to win right back for the hot jockey/trainer duo of Edgar Morales and Greg Foley.

Gulfstream Park, Race 6: $559,028 Pick 6 mandatory payout (2:45 p.m. ET)

A $559,028 Rainbow Pick 6 carryover will be paid out in mandatory fashion at Gulfstream. The final pool for the 20-cent wager is expected to reach the $4 million range.

The second leg of the sequence is Race 7, a 1 1/16-mile maiden special weight for three-year-olds. Eight horses have entered, but none of the experienced runners have posted a Brisnet Speed rating within 12 points of the par winning number (87) for these conditions.

That’s why we suggest singling the first-time starter #4 Adventurist (2-1). The stoutly bred son of Curlin is trained by Todd Pletcher, who has gone 5-for-21 (24%) debuting three-year-old males in dirt routes at Gulfstream since 2020.

Adventurist has put together a solid work tab and has five-time Eclipse Award-winning jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. named to ride, so the stage appears set for victory.

Santa Anita, Race 5: $35,524 Pick 6 carryover (5:07 p.m. ET)

Bettors seeking a single for the $35,524 Pick 6 carryover at Santa Anita might want to check out Race 9, a $20,000 claimer for older horses sprinting 6 1/2 furlongs over the main track.

After competing in a long series of turf routes, #3 Mega Moon (2-1) switched to dirt for a six-furlong $20,000 claimer on Dec. 29. He pressed the pace before battling on to finish second by half a length.

Mega Moon was claimed out of that contest by trainer George Papaprodromou, who wins at a 27% rate with new claiming acquisitions. Throw in the presence of red-hot jockey Flavien Prat (a 28% winner at Santa Anita this meet), and Mega Moon looks like a viable Pick 6 single while sticking to the same conditions as his last start.

Good luck!
